02. Yanji Weather: Early, Mid, & Late September
Yanji's average temperature in September is around 59°F.
🌡️ Lows can drop to ~47°F / Highs can reach ~71°F
The 'feels like' temperature in Yanji during September can be as low as ~55°F, meaning the temperature can fluctuate quite a bit throughout the day!
Early September Yanji Weather
Early September still holds onto some remnants of summer. While sunny days can feel warm, I wouldn't recommend packing only short-sleeved tops.
Mornings and evenings can be chilly, so a long-sleeved shirt or a light jacket is essential.
Mid-September Yanji Weather
By mid-September, the autumn atmosphere becomes much more pronounced.
Days are pleasantly cool, but mornings and evenings will definitely feel crisp.
If you're traveling in mid-September, it's best to focus your packing around long-sleeved clothing.
Late September Yanji Weather
For late September, you absolutely need to pack mostly long-sleeved tops and bring a separate, heavier outer layer.
Especially if your trip includes Baekdusan, remember that its high altitude means temperatures will be significantly colder. A warm jacket or coat is an absolute must-have for this part of your journey!
03. Must-Visit Spots in Yanbian
Baekdusan Tour
If you're visiting China's Yanbian region, a trip to Baekdusan (known as Changbai Mountain in Chinese) is an absolute must-do!
Baekdusan is quite a distance from Yanji city center. The most popular and accessible routes for tourists are the North Slope, West Slope, and South Slope, with the North Slope being the closest and most frequently visited.
I personally took a one-day tour from Yanji city to the North Slope, and it was surprisingly comfortable and convenient. I highly recommend taking a tour, especially for first-time visitors!

Tumen
Tumen, China, is a fantastic nearby destination accessible by train from Yanji city. It's truly unique because you can actually see the Duman River, which forms the border between North Korea and China!
From the Duman River Observatory, you can get a real glimpse of North Korean villages. It's surprisingly close, and I highly recommend making the trip!
I've seen North Korea once before from Dandong, but Tumen offers an even closer view, so it's definitely worth it.
The train ride is easy, affordable, and doesn't take long at all, making it perfect for a half-day morning tour.
