How to Get from Vienna to Salzburg

When traveling from Vienna to Salzburg,

the bus is at a disadvantage, both in terms of travel time and cost.

What's more, train stations are conveniently located near Vienna's city center,

with various departure points like the Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) and West Station (Westbahnhof).

In contrast, Vienna's International Bus Terminal is relatively out of the way.

That's why unless you have a specific reason otherwise, I highly recommend the train!

How to Book OBB Train Tickets

for Vienna to Salzburg

✔ The official OBB website is usually the cheapest.

✔ Book at least 2-3 months in advance.

✔ If you find the official site difficult in English, Klook is a great alternative.

For booking train tickets from Vienna to Salzburg,

you can do so through the Austrian Federal Railways (OBB).

Keep in mind that European train ticket prices tend to increase as the travel date approaches,

so it's best to book at least 2-3 months in advance.

click on [Timetable & Tickets]!

The train stations most frequently used by travelers are

Vienna Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) and West Station (Westbahnhof).

Refer to the official names below when entering your departure station.

Since there's some distance between these two Vienna stations,

RJX trains are about 20 minutes faster than IC trains.
