If you're eager to see Klimt's <The Kiss> in Vienna with your own eyes,

the Upper Belvedere Palace is where you need to go.

From why the Belvedere Palace is so famous,

to reserving your Upper Belvedere tickets, entrance fees, must-see masterpieces, and even your ideal viewing route,

I'll break it all down for you.

The Belvedere Palace is a place where you can witness

about 800 years of art history within its Baroque-style walls.

The Upper Belvedere, in particular, showcases works that define Viennese Modernism,

including Klimt's iconic masterpiece, <The Kiss>.

The Upper Belvedere houses a permanent collection featuring artists like Klimt, Schiele, and Van Gogh,

while the Lower Belvedere hosts special exhibitions,

and Belvedere 21 is a hub for contemporary art.

Standard admission tickets

can be purchased on the official website and through various booking platforms.

Both the Upper and Lower Belvedere require timed entry,

so it's a good idea to book in advance if you have a preferred time.

Online tickets allow you to bypass the ticket counter

and head straight to the entrance.

I've compared prices across different booking sites for you.

At the time of checking, MyRealTrip was approximately ~$1 cheaper

than the official website price.

After entering, I rented an audio guide and grabbed a map,

then explored from the top floor downwards.

And if you've come to the Belvedere,

the piece you're probably most curious about is none other than Klimt's <The Kiss>.

<The Kiss> is a magnificent work measuring 180x180cm.

I'd seen it countless times in photos, so it felt familiar,

but seeing it in person, it struck me as much grander than I had imagined.

Among the works I saw firsthand,

these are the ones I'd especially recommend keeping an eye out for.

After you've soaked in Klimt's masterpieces,

don't miss the incredible works by Van Gogh and Monet either!

Please note that the location of artworks can change due to loans and exhibition rotations,

so checking the map and gallery guide on the day of your visit

is the most accurate way to find them.

Inside the Upper Belvedere, you'll find restrooms, free lockers,

a souvenir shop, a café, and various resting areas.

After finishing my tour of the Upper Belvedere,

I walked down through the gardens towards the Lower Belvedere.

I didn't go inside the Lower Belvedere,

but I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the gardens and the exterior of the palace.

Just a heads-up: there's quite a bit of walking involved,

so if you're planning a long visit, I highly recommend comfortable shoes.

Once you've made your way down to the Lower Belvedere,

it's convenient to take Tram 71 to continue towards the city center.

If <The Kiss> is your top priority,

focus on the Upper Belvedere first.

You can add the Lower Belvedere's interior to your plan if you're keen on seeing special exhibitions.

For general admission tickets, it's best to book your desired time slot in advance.

If you're using a Vienna Pass or Flexi Pass,

make sure to have your pass and identification ready.

After touring the Upper Belvedere, descending through the gardens towards the Lower Belvedere

makes it convenient to head back to the city center.

The Belvedere Palace isn't

just a place to see Klimt's <The Kiss>;

what I loved most was the opportunity to experience the Baroque palace, its magnificent gardens, and Klimt's original masterpieces all at once.

In particular, seeing the actual <The Kiss> truly offers a different impression in terms of

size and color compared to photographs,

making it an absolutely worthwhile experience if you love Klimt's work.

If your Vienna itinerary is tight,

I recommend reserving your visit to the Upper Belvedere first, soaking in the key artworks,

and then strolling through the gardens down towards the Lower Belvedere.
