When exploring the beautiful city of Vienna, Austria, it’s not just about savoring traditional Austrian dishes like Schnitzel or Goulash. There's also immense pleasure in tasting locally brewed beer!

The 1516 Brewing Company, a renowned Vienna eatery famous for its house-made beer and succulent ribs, was a highlight of our trip. Its prime location, just a 5-minute stroll from the Vienna State Opera, made it incredibly convenient to fit into our itinerary.

We enjoyed dinner here before heading to an opera performance we had booked. The ribs alone were more than enough for two, and as expected from a brewery pub, the beer was absolutely delicious – a truly satisfying experience.

One of the biggest perks of 1516 Brewing Company is its fantastic central location in Vienna. It’s perfect for travelers looking to maximize their time.

Being just a 5-minute walk from the Vienna State Opera, it’s an ideal spot for a meal before or after catching a show. Plus, it’s close to major attractions like the Albertina Museum and Kärntner Straße, so you won’t have to venture far for a great meal.

During our visit, we strategically planned our evening: dinner at 1516 Brewing followed by a performance at the Vienna State Opera. These performances require punctuality, and arriving late could mean forfeiting your expensive ticket.

So, if you have opera tickets, I highly recommend dining at a nearby restaurant like 1516 Brewing Company for a relaxed meal.

We visited Vienna during a past holiday season, and many popular shows were sold out, so we ended up seeing 'Hansel and Gretel.' While I enjoy musicals and performances a couple of times a year, I found the opera a bit tedious and hard to follow, which wasn't as satisfying as I'd hoped.

Perhaps a more famous opera would have felt different, but if you're not particularly keen on theatrical performances, you might not need to book tickets.

However, if you're curious about the interior of the Vienna State Opera, a true landmark, a guided tour might be a better fit.

While 1516 Brewing Company is a brewery pub, it's far more than just a place for beer; they offer an extensive and diverse food menu.

The interior is quite spacious. We arrived around 5:30 PM, an early dinner time during the holiday season, and were seated immediately without any wait.

Their most popular dish is the ribs, but you can also find classic Austrian staples like Schnitzel and Goulash, making it a fantastic spot to enjoy local cuisine with a fresh brew.

They also offer lighter bites perfect for pairing with beer, such as French fries and hot wings.

If you're visiting with a group, I recommend ordering a variety of dishes like ribs, Schnitzel, or hot wings to share.

The most memorable thing when I first cut into the ribs was how incredibly tender the meat was.

You didn't need to put much effort into slicing; the knife glided right through, and the meat easily fell off the bone.

The sauce wasn't a strange European BBQ flavor, but rather reminded me of a sweet and savory Korean galbi sauce, which perfectly suited my palate.

The accompanying French fries were also delicious, especially dipped in the rib sauce or the mayonnaise-like sauce provided.

We weren't extremely hungry at the time, so one order of ribs and two beers were perfectly sufficient for the two of us.

Considering the portion size and menu, it felt like a reasonably priced option among the restaurants we visited in Vienna.

If you have a bigger appetite or are very hungry, adding an order of hot wings or another side dish would be a great idea.

And the beer was just as satisfying as the ribs.

Perhaps because it was a brewery pub, the beer was fresh and full of flavor, pairing exceptionally well with the sweet and savory ribs.

While we visited several Schnitzel restaurants in Vienna, 1516 Brewing offered a distinct charm with its combination of local beer and hearty meat dishes.

It wasn't a place I'd necessarily rush back to on my next Vienna trip, but it's definitely a worthwhile spot if you're in Vienna, craving ribs, and want to enjoy them with fresh, house-brewed beer.
