Hey there, fellow travelers!

As we planned our New York and Cancun honeymoon, after deciding on an all-inclusive resort for Cancun, our biggest decision for the New York leg was figuring out our accommodation budget and location.

Considering we visited around the end of the year, specifically near Christmas, prices were understandably high. And with so much to see and do in New York, choosing the right neighborhood felt like a huge task!

To cut to the chase, we split our 8 nights in New York across three different accommodations. Our first three nights were spent at the 4-star The Muse New York, right next to Times Square.

1. Why We Chose a Times Square Hotel for Our New York Trip

We chose to stay near Times Square for our first three nights, and then near SoHo for two nights (the remaining three nights were spent with relatives, which was a nice bonus!)

Here’s why we picked the Times Square area for our initial hotel:

☑️Unbeatable transportation convenience!

☑️It’s an iconic symbol of the city, and my husband was visiting New York for the first time.

☑️Since it was our honeymoon, we had a bit more budget to play with.

☑️Plenty of breakfast spots and eateries nearby.

As you can see from the photo, Times Square is always bustling with people. Some might say it’s too chaotic and noisy, but for our honeymoon, we thought, “When else will we get to experience sleeping right in the heart of it all?”

Above all, the transportation is incredibly convenient! Whether we were coming back late after a jazz club, a Broadway show, or simply enjoying the city lights, the Times Square area always felt bright and active, which actually made us feel safer.

What’s great about The Muse New York is that it’s not directly on the main, dazzling strip of Times Square, but rather nestled between 6th and 7th Avenues, which meant it wasn’t overly noisy.

Plus, based on when we visited, this 4-star hotel was priced at around ~$276 per night. Considering its prime location and excellent transport links, that’s truly a fantastic value!

2. Honest Review of The Muse New York Deluxe Room

Here’s our honest review of the Deluxe Room we booked at The Muse New York. The room condition was perfectly adequate!

Despite being in the heart of the city, it didn't feel cramped, and there was plenty of space to open two suitcases.

These photos give you a better sense of the space.

Beyond the bed, there were two single sofas and a table, which made it convenient for enjoying takeout meals from outside.

There was also a separate desk that doubled as a vanity, perfect for keeping cosmetics and other items organized. However, the lighting was quite dim, so I ended up doing my makeup in the bathroom.

As an older hotel, it had some interesting, classic decorative touches, like the one on the left. But it also had modern conveniences like USB-C charging ports by the bed, showing they cater to guest comfort.

The bathroom featured a spacious shower stall, mirroring the ample size of the room. Amenities included body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and by the sink, hand wash and body cream.

However, as is often the case with many hotels abroad, the conditioner wasn’t great, leaving hair feeling like a broom. I’d recommend bringing your own!

The TV wasn’t huge, but it was a smart TV, so we were able to relax and watch some Netflix in the evenings (personal account login required).

While I’ve highlighted the advantages like location, price, transportation, and room condition, I also want to share a few minor inconveniences we experienced:

✔️The older building meant there was a noticeable draft from the windows.

(While the blinds helped block most of it, the room never felt completely warm.)

✔️The combination of carpet, radiator, and heater led to incredibly dry air in the room.

These were primarily winter inconveniences, as we visited during the Christmas season. On the bright side, the comforter was wonderfully thick and cozy, making it easy to oversleep! 🤣🤣

3. The Muse New York: A Hotel That Stores Your Luggage

When traveling, luggage storage at your hotel is essential. We’d never used lockers in New York, and frankly, I imagined they’d be incredibly expensive. So, before our honeymoon, I even contacted the hotel directly to ask: Can we store our luggage before check-in and after check-out?

They confirmed it was absolutely possible! When you inquire about luggage storage at the lobby, they’ll call a staff member to assist you. We typically tipped around ~$1-2 when collecting our bags later.

As a 4-star hotel, the lobby felt luxurious, though it wasn't overly spacious.

On one side of the lobby, there’s Little Opus, a charming cafe and cocktail bar. If the weather isn't cooperating, it's a perfect spot to grab a drink right inside the hotel.

And while it wasn't there when we visited, The Pocket, a live jazz club, has since opened in the basement! A jazz bar is a must-do in New York, and how convenient is it to have one right within your hotel building? 🥰
