Hobart, Tasmania Travel Guide 2026: Why This Australian Gem Calls You Back
Discover Hobart, Tasmania's serene capital, a hidden gem offering unparalleled peace and unique experiences. Plan your perfect trip with our 2026 guide!
Ah, back in the day... many years ago,
in Amy's younger days,
I had a working holiday
in Australia.
After language studies and earning some foreign currency,
I spent one whole intense month traveling all over Australia!‼️
From Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Uluru,
to small towns and islands near Brisbane, and even New Zealand!
It's a slight pity I couldn't make it to Cairns or Perth,
but I was truly happy during my travels,
and among them, Tasmania really stuck with me.
I stayed for the shortest time there,
but I could feel a sense of peace
that I hadn't experienced in other Australian cities,
so my satisfaction was high.
It's a city I'd love to visit again if I get the chance.

✅ Tasmania Weather:
While Tasmania tends to be sunny year-round,
during winter (June-August), it can be a bit chilly with strong winds!
(I traveled in June... a winter person!)

Tasmania's winter, where both dogs and humans dressed warmly.
The sun sets early, and it can even snow
(something not commonly seen in Australia, haha!)
While it's a great city for trekking,
it's recommended to visit in spring or autumn, avoiding winter.
Getting from Hobart Airport to the City Center in Tasmania

Captured the cute quarantine dog
through a blurry lens (?)..

Getting from the airport to the city is easy with the airport shuttle bus.
Since it's an open-date ticket, and you'll have to return to the airport anyway,
make sure to get a round-trip ticket.
Tasmania Accommodation
Somerset on the Pier Hobart
The hotel I stayed at back then was
Somerset on the Pier Hobart.
It seems like there are a lot more hotels now,
but back then, there were more serviced apartments
than traditional tourist hotels.

It looked a bit like entering a seafood market, but it was a hotel.
The interior facilities were much better than what it looked like from the outside, haha!
Every room had a harbor view.
The location was fantastic, close to Salamanca Market,
various museums, and galleries, making it very popular among tourists.
And for a rather 'poor' (?) traveler like me,
it was quite a luxurious treat...

Oh my goodness, my blogger spirit totally checked out! ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

It's even a duplex!

The bathroom is spacious too!

A harbor path perfect for jogging
(Not that I actually did any jogging, mind you! 😉)

Must-Visit Spots in Tasmania
If you only plan to see Hobart in Tasmania,
exploring the city on foot is certainly enough, but
having come all this way, it would be a shame to miss Port Arthur and Bruny Island, wouldn't it?
That's why I recommend a convenient tour!
During my stay, I explored Hobart independently,
and for the rest of the itinerary, I opted for a tour package (a 3-night, 4-day course).
A must-do tour in Tasmania!
To truly soak in Tasmania's history,
take your time to leisurely explore Hobart city, which is full of incredible sights like
the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens,
Wellington Park,
the Hobart Prison Museum,
Salamanca Market, and more!

Made in Tasmania
In Tasmania's souvenir shops, you can find a plethora of beautiful magnets to check out!

With Halloween just around the corner,
it'll feel like you need to fill a pumpkin basket with
plenty of chocolates!

Salamanca Arts Centre

And you'll truly feel like you're in a vibrant tourist city when you spot the
city tour bus! ‼️
(That red bus always brings a welcoming, exciting feeling, no matter where you spot it!)

There's also the Tasmanian Museum!

Freshly fried seafood!
You know the saying, "Even shoes taste good when fried,"
so this combination is an absolute winner!

My forever travel partner, Miranda...
The one thing she lacks, however, is
photography skills,
lol.
But if you just let go and don't worry about it, it's totally fine!
As night fell, Hobart became a bit quiet and eerie with fewer people around, but
we slipped into a wine bar with a lovely ambiance.
We enjoyed a glass of wine,
and savored some delicious pizza.

I even got to meet some adorable baby animals!
The next day, I also set off on a tour with our incredibly witty guide,
but as I started writing, this post became quite long,
and I, well, I utterly failed at managing the word count! ^^;
