Souan Cosmos: A Kaiseki Culinary Gem
Hey there, fellow travelers!
We're BG Travel, your favorite travel duo!
Today, we're excited to share our experience from a recent family trip (four of us!) during the stunning autumn foliage season.
We're diving into our review of Souan Cosmos Ryokan in Yufuin, Fukuoka, covering its private onsen, luxurious rooms, and unforgettable kaiseki dining!

Let's cut to the chase!
We booked this ryokan for its renowned kaiseki cuisine and beautiful open-air baths, and it truly was
even better than we imagined!
Both the dinner and breakfast kaiseki were absolutely delicious. We've experienced several ryokans, but
Souan Cosmos's kaiseki still reigns supreme – we can't recommend it enough!
The open-air baths were incredibly relaxing, making it a perfect Yufuin ryokan for both couples and family getaways.
Our entire family was so satisfied, we're already planning a return visit in a different season!

1. Yufuin Ryokan Location, Room Condition, and Open-Air Bath Review

First off, Souan Cosmos Ryokan boasts an unbeatable location. Yufuin Village is right outside, and the serene Lake Kinrin is just a short 5-8 minute stroll away.
This meant we could check in, explore Yufuin Village, relax at the ryokan all day, and then enjoy a peaceful morning walk around Lake Kinrin before breakfast the next day.
Truly ideal!

We splurged on a detached villa, a two-story private unit complete with its own open-air bath!
Since it was a special family trip for four, we decided to go all out with the villa.
If you're a couple or visiting with friends, their Japanese-style rooms also come highly recommended and offer a wonderful experience.

Upstairs, you'll find the beds and a restroom featuring a high-tech toilet with an automatic lid – a fun little touch!

Each guest also received comfortable pajamas and traditional yukata robes, perfectly sized for everyone.

Our room also featured a private garden with its own individual open-air bath!
While lovely, we actually preferred the larger public open-air bath.
The private one was a bit smaller, more suited for a solo soak.

Here's a peek at the public open-air bath.
It's worth noting that the onsen facilities here aren't as massive or extensive as some other ryokans.
However, this is actually a plus!
With fewer rooms and guests, it never felt crowded; we only ever shared it with one or two other people.
Most importantly, the quality of the thermal spring water was absolutely fantastic – a huge win in our book!

2. Yufuin Ryokan Kaiseki Dining Review

Kaiseki is a multi-course meal, and you can order alcoholic beverages separately.

We started with a wonderfully warm soup. While some dishes in a traditional kaiseki can be quite unique, we found everything incredibly delicious and perfectly suited to our taste, even the unfamiliar items!

Since we visited in autumn, the presentation was beautifully themed, and the sashimi was absolutely exquisite!
It was also my first time trying horse sashimi, and I was pleasantly surprised – it was delicious!

The beef simply melted in our mouths! We enjoyed many other fantastic dishes not pictured here, but these were definitely the most memorable.

After enjoying the kaiseki, we all agreed that the quality alone made the entire stay worthwhile.
It felt like we got incredible value just from this amazing dining experience!

If you're searching for a Yufuin ryokan that excels in kaiseki cuisine, look no further than Souan Cosmos Ryokan.
The staff were incredibly attentive throughout our stay, making it a truly comfortable and healing escape.
I'd happily return even on a solo trip!
Yufuin Souan Cosmos Ryokan is located right in front of Yufuin Village. Lake Kinrinko is about a 5 to 8-minute walk away.
The private detached room reserved by a family of four, as mentioned in the article, is a two-story annex villa with a private open-air bath. The second floor features a bed and a state-of-the-art toilet system, and pajamas and yukata were prepared according to the number of guests.
According to the article, the private open-air bath was not very large, making it a good size for enjoying alone. In contrast, the public open-air bath was generally mentioned as being better, and since there were few guest rooms, there weren't many users, with only one or two people overlapping at a time.
The kaiseki dinner mentioned warm soup dishes, sashimi, and horse meat sashimi, which was tried for the first time. The beef was also remembered for its melt-in-your-mouth taste.
