Silp-Pa Ayutthaya Hotel Review: Walk to Wat Mahathat
Looking for an authentic stay in Ayutthaya? Read our honest review of Silp-Pa Phra Nakhon Ayutthaya, a charming boutique art hotel steps from ancient ruins.
I’ve been to Ayutthaya several times now.
Sometimes I rented a car for a quick day trip,
and other times I hitched a ride with friends to marvel at the ruins
before heading straight back to Bangkok.
But this trip was different. I wanted to give my younger siblings
the full, unhurried experience of this ancient capital.
To make the most of our weekend,
we left on Friday evening
and booked a two-night stay—our very first time overnighting here.
We chose this spot because of its incredible proximity to the ruins,
and the photos promised a clean, minimalist aesthetic.
But once we checked in,
we realized this wasn’t just a place to sleep.
It’s a property that truly captures the soul of Ayutthaya.

A True Ayutthaya Vibe

We arrived late on Friday evening.
Walking down the corridor toward the reception desk,
we found ourselves flanked by traditional Thai sculptures
and local paintings on both sides.
It felt like stepping into a cozy private art gallery.
The ambiance was a far cry from your run-of-the-mill, cookie-cutter hotel,
and it immediately got us excited for our historical weekend adventure.

Spacious Rooms That Outpunch Their Price Tag

Our home for the weekend was the Deluxe Double Room.
At just about ~$26 per night, we weren't expecting luxury,
but the room was surprisingly spacious.
The bed was incredibly comfortable, the AC was ice-cold,
and the bathroom had excellent water pressure with consistent hot water.
With a mini-fridge and a proper writing desk,
it’s fully equipped for travelers staying more than just a night.
On Saturday morning, I actually had to log on for a remote meeting,
while my siblings went ahead to tour the nearby temples.
The property was incredibly quiet and peaceful,
allowing me to breeze through my work before
closing my laptop and immediately diving back into vacation mode.
Exploring Ayutthaya on Foot

The primary reason we booked this hotel was its location.
Wat Mahathat is only about 0.6 miles away,
meaning we could easily explore the main historical park on foot.
We spent our morning wandering through ancient ruins, headed back to the room
to escape the midday heat, and then walked out again in the evening
to visit the vibrant Bang Lan Night Market.
The night market is about a 20-minute walk,
but since the sun had already set, the evening breeze made it a lovely stroll.
If you’re not keen on walking in the humidity,
it’s only a 4-minute ride. Hailing a Grab or a local Tuk-tuk
is incredibly cheap and convenient.
A Curated 100 Baht Breakfast Worth Every Penny

This hotel is highly praised online for its breakfast, and now I know why.
For just 100 Baht (~$3), you can add breakfast to your stay.
Instead of a generic, lukewarm buffet, you choose your dish the night before,
and they cook it fresh for you in the morning.
It’s served beautifully on a large, fresh lotus leaf,
giving you the feel of a authentic, home-cooked Thai meal.
It was both visually stunning and incredibly delicious.
The ground floor also houses a lovely cafe and art gallery,
making it the perfect spot to sit back and sip a slow morning coffee.
Things to Keep in Mind Before Booking
There is no elevator and no swimming pool on site.
However, because of the limited number of rooms, the property remains incredibly quiet.
The lush gardens and wooden architecture perfectly match the historical vibe of Ayutthaya.
One minor detail: the abundant plants mean mosquitoes can come out in the evening,
so packing some mosquito repellent is highly recommended!
