And the one place that absolutely topped my list was Shirakawa-go!

It offers a completely different scenery compared to Nagoya city, making it perfect for a day excursion.

Since Shirakawa-go is a bit of a distance from Nagoya, opting for a day bus tour can significantly reduce travel stress.

Shirakawa-go is a village nestled deep in the mountains of Gifu Prefecture, renowned for its unique Gassho-zukuri traditional houses.

In person, the scenery with the mountains and traditional houses blending together was even more stunning than in pictures.

Upon arrival, the very first place I recommend visiting is the Shirakawa-go Observatory.

From here, you can gaze down at the entire village, with its clustered Gassho-zukuri houses – it's truly breathtaking.

After enjoying the observatory, you can head down into the village and leisurely stroll through its charming alleys.

4. Explore the Traditional Village and Savor Local Treats

Once you venture into the village, you can get up close to the Gassho-zukuri houses, browse souvenir shops, and discover local delicacies.

Rather than constantly searching for specific destinations, I found immense joy in simply strolling leisurely through the alleys.

Sampling Hida beef snacks and perusing souvenirs along the way, time just flew by.

Since you'll be doing a fair bit of walking, I also recommend wearing comfortable sneakers.

Given the travel time from Nagoya to Shirakawa-go, I initially debated whether a day trip was feasible.

But having experienced it firsthand, the scenery is truly unlike anything you'll find in Nagoya city, making it well worth dedicating a day to.
