When planning a trip to Cebu, Philippines, many travelers often split their stay between a city hotel and a Mactan resort. While I usually incorporate a visit to Bohol and primarily use OceanJet for transfers, plenty of people opt to spend their entire vacation at a Mactan resort. Among the most popular choices are Jpark Island Resort and the resort we're diving into today, Shangri-La Mactan. And let me tell you, it truly lives up to its reputation!
First up, check-in. The resort offers a comfortable waiting area with welcome drinks. I arrived right on time, so I barely had to wait at all. They also explained the Circle membership, and signing up gets you two scoops of ice cream – among other options, but that's what I chose, of course!
Shangri-La Mactan Guest Rooms
I stayed in a Deluxe Sea View room at Shangri-La Cebu, and it was everything I hoped for. The bed was incredibly spacious, making it feel truly like a relaxing getaway.
And the view? Absolutely breathtaking. Stepping out onto the balcony to that expansive ocean vista truly felt like my worries were melting away.
Other amenities like bottled water and a mini-fridge were standard, but again, that bed was massive – you could practically sleep sideways! While some reviews mention the rooms feeling a bit dated, I honestly didn't find it noticeable or bothersome at all.
The bathroom features a bathtub and a generous selection of amenities. These days, some places skimp on the extras, so it felt quite luxurious to have everything so well-stocked.
Pools (Main Wing & Ocean Wing)
The resort boasts two fantastic pool areas: the Main Wing pool and the Ocean Wing pool. The Ocean Wing pool closes earlier in the evening, leaving the Main Wing pool open for late-night dips. They're not far apart, so you can easily check out both and pick your favorite. The vibe is generally family-friendly at the Main Wing and more geared towards couples at the Ocean Wing. As one of the top Cebu resorts with amazing pools, there's plenty of space to splash around and relax.
Private Beach
While the pools are great, the private beach is truly the star of the show. It's so incredible that I often found myself skipping the pools during the day. Just a short walk away, this private slice of paradise is undoubtedly one of the biggest reasons why Shangri-La consistently makes every Cebu resort recommendation list.
The variety and abundance of fish here are quite surprising! Plus, it's not too deep, making it perfect for snorkeling and simply enjoying the ocean. I loved it so much that even on my check-out day, I grabbed breakfast and then headed straight back to the beach until it was time to leave.
Shangri-La Cebu Breakfast
Finally, let's talk about breakfast. With such a vast resort and so much to do, even briefly touching on each aspect makes for a lot to cover! As a popular spot for international guests, they even offer Korean dishes, including kimchi, which is a thoughtful touch.
Beyond that, you'll find all the usual favorites like a wide array of baked goods and fresh fruits. There's also a dedicated kids' zone, making it easy for little ones to find something they love.
