Our 2026 summer vacation culminated here
at Seochang Hanok Culture Center.
Nestled in Gwangju's Seogu district, the Seochang Hanok Culture Center
offered us a refreshing 2-day, 1-night stay with loved ones,
and we enthusiastically joined their healing program.

Right in front of Seochang Hanok Culture Center,
there's a public parking lot, making it super convenient
to park your car.
Inside the Hanok Culture Center, you'll find rooms ranging from 1-2 person capacities
to various types of rooms that can accommodate up to 6 people.
It offers incredible value for money, truly a bang for your buck!
On weekdays, you can stay for around ~$21-28.
I think it's an excellent spot to recommend to visitors coming to Gwangju from other regions
or even for international tourists looking for an authentic experience.
Inside, there's also a lovely grassy courtyard.
And they offer a variety of programs!

Inside the 4-Person Room
I stayed in a 4-person room located on the second floor.
It was well-equipped with a refrigerator and all the basic amenities.
There were plenty of towels too.
Bedding (quilts and pillows) was also prepared for four people.
In the bathroom, while disposable toiletries weren't provided, basic
shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were available.
The view from our room offered a delightful glimpse of rural charm,
truly embracing that rustic countryside vibe.
There was also a small table, perfect for gathering with family
to share snacks or simply chat.
Both the air conditioning and heating worked perfectly,
making it a comfortable place to stay in any season.
Yaeunbyeoldang (Coffee Shop)
If you check the video or map, you'll notice Yaeunbyeoldang, a coffee shop, right next to the parking lot.
An Americano costs ~$1.
For seniors aged 65 and over, it's only ~$1.
Even though the facilities are quite impressive, the prices are incredibly affordable!
Looking at how it's operated, it doesn't seem to be run by an individual.
It makes me think it's operated with assistance from the Seogu District Office
or local government.
A slight downside is that it closes at 6 PM, opening at 10 AM,
so the available hours are short, which was a bit disappointing for guests staying overnight.
Seochang Hanok Small Library
Just a one-minute walk from Seochang Hanok Culture Center,
you'll find the Seochang Hanok Small Library.
They kindly informed us that the library was a bit
messy because they were replacing furniture like chairs,
and guided us with such warmth.
Though not extensive, it was a space where you could truly soak in the ambiance of a hanok,
and enjoy some healing time with a good book.
Borrowing a book here and reading it at the Hanok Culture Center
or a nearby cafe would also be a wonderful
way to relax and rejuvenate.
Seochang Sentimental Observatory
One of Gwangju's famous night view spots,
the Seochang Sentimental Observatory is about
a 3-5 minute drive from Seochang Hanok Culture Center.
It's more than a 20-minute walk.
If you come here around sunset,
on a clear day, you can witness a truly magnificent
sunset.
With its focus on sunset views,
this spot is also known in Gwangju as a fantastic place for a date
or a pleasant outing.
If you sit on the long stairs in the left photo,
you'll be facing the direction of the setting sun, allowing you to enjoy a splendid sunset.
If you visit on a cloudy day, you won't be able to see the sunset.
I've been here several times myself, but I haven't always been lucky enough
to catch a truly spectacular sunset.
Breakfast
Though bread isn't visible in the picture, breakfast included bread, drinks, tangerines, eggs,
and strawberry jam.
I heard that regardless of the number of people, breakfast costs ~$7 for one basket.
It seemed like they prepared the baskets to match the number of guests.
The next morning, after checking out,
my mother, my second child, and I participated in the Seochang Hanok Wellness Healing Tour program,
specifically the seasonal cooking program.
Healing Tour Cooking Program
We made zucchini pancakes (Aehobak-jeon) and Omija-hwachae (five-flavor berry punch),
which seemed like perfect dishes for the whole family to make together during Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving).
All the ingredients were prepped, so by simply following the instructor's directions to chop and mix them,
we were able to complete some fantastic dishes.
Safely prepping and chopping the ingredients, we were able to create enjoyable memories with the children.
They provided so many ingredients that anything left over after our creative session,
we were able to pack up and share with family members
who couldn't join us at home!
Mellow Trip: Final Thoughts
Immersed in the tranquil charm of a traditional Hanok, this was a truly recommendable stay
where the whole family could relax without any stress, finding both excellent value and true healing.
With immaculate room conditions, the charming Cafe Ya-eunbyeoldang,
a quaint small library, and the path connecting them all the way to the Seochang Gamseong Observatory, a renowned sunset spot,
the entire experience was both fulfilling and beautiful.
If you're a traveler looking to savor the relaxed charm of the countryside just outside the city
while enjoying a true wellness retreat, or a family seeking a memorable getaway,
we wholeheartedly recommend this place.
