Ho Chi Minh to Quy Nhon Flight Review: Vietnam Airlines 2026
Dreaming of Vietnam's hidden gems? Discover how to reach Quy Nhon from Ho Chi Minh City, with a detailed Vietnam Airlines domestic flight review for your 2026 adventure.

How to Get to Quy Nhon & My Vietnam Airlines Review
Since Quy Nhon doesn't have direct international flights yet,
you have two main ways to reach this beautiful destination.
One is to travel overland from Nha Trang or Da Nang by train or bus,
or you can take a domestic flight with Vietnam Airlines
from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.
For this trip, I opted to fly with Vietnam Airlines from Ho Chi Minh City
all the way to Quy Nhon.
Below, I'll share all the ways to get there
along with my personal review of the journey.
A Quick Intro to Quy Nhon

Quy Nhon is a vibrant city located on Vietnam's south-central coast. Unlike more widely known tourist spots like Da Nang or Nha Trang, it's still relatively undiscovered by international travelers, making it a popular coastal destination primarily frequented by Vietnamese locals.

Along the beach, you'll find plenty of impressive hotels, and nestled in the charming alleys are cute cafes, authentic local eateries, seafood restaurants, and a variety of other dining spots.

With its beautiful beaches, Quy Nhon offers both a lively tourist vibe and a strong local feel, creating a unique place where everyday life and a relaxing getaway perfectly coexist. As I traveled around, I noticed many areas undergoing resort and tourist development, which makes me think that Quy Nhon is poised to become Vietnam's next major resort destination, following in the footsteps of Da Nang and Nha Trang.
How to Get to Quy Nhon
Overland Travel from Nha Trang or Da Nang |
You can choose to travel overland from Nha Trang or Da Nang using a train, sleeper bus, or rental car. Among the cities with direct international flights, Nha Trang is the closest to Quy Nhon, making it a popular choice for overland journeys.

By train, it takes about 4 hours from Nha Trang to Quy Nhon. However, the train doesn't go directly to Quy Nhon station; you'll need to get off in a city called Diêu Trì and then take a Grab or similar service to reach Quy Nhon.

If you opt for a popular sleeper bus or a private limousine rental, the journey typically takes around 3 to 5 hours, depending on the route and any stops.

Domestic Flights from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City |
When traveling from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, going by train or bus would take an incredibly long time, so it's most common to take a domestic flight within Vietnam.
✅ Ho Chi Minh City to Quy Nhon: Approximately 1 hour 10 minutes
✅ Hanoi to Quy Nhon: Approximately 1 hour 40 minutes
The closest airport to Quy Nhon is Phu Cat Airport.
📍 Phu Cat Airport

Phu Cat Airport is a small domestic airport located on the outskirts of the city. It's about 35 km from Quy Nhon city center, requiring approximately a 50-minute drive.

From Phu Cat Airport to Quy Nhon city center, you can choose from Grab, airport taxis, or even airport buses. While Grab usually costs around 300,000-400,000 VND, you might find a taxi company right outside the airport offering rides to Quy Nhon city for about half that price!

Quy Nhon doesn't have direct international flights, so getting there means some in-country travel by land or air. But, weighing both schedule and energy, I found that taking a domestic flight from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh was hands-down the most comfortable way to go.

My Vietnam Airlines Journey to Quy Nhon!
From Ho Chi Minh to Quy Nhon: My Vietnam Airlines Flight |

I hopped on a domestic Vietnam Airlines flight to Quy Nhon from Ho Chi Minh Tan Son Nhat Airport's domestic terminal. Just a heads-up: the domestic terminal at Tan Son Nhat Airport is a completely separate building from the international one, so keep that in mind!

Since I was flying with Vietnam Airlines, I headed straight to their counter for check-in. For domestic flights in Vietnam, if it's not peak season (think Lunar New Year or school holidays), arriving about 1.5 hours before your flight usually gives you a relaxed start. But during those busy times, definitely aim for at least 2 hours!

The domestic terminal at Ho Chi Minh's Tan Son Nhat Airport is quite spacious, likely because it's so bustling! You'll find plenty of restaurants and souvenir shops to explore, perfect for a pre-flight browse.

Our flight from Ho Chi Minh to Quy Nhon was on a cozy 3-3 configured plane. Since the flight was just a little over an hour, we enjoyed a refreshing beverage service instead of a full meal – just what we needed!

Quy Nhon's Phu Cat Airport is wonderfully compact, with just two baggage claim areas. You'll likely find your luggage appearing quite fast, as there are rarely multiple flights arriving simultaneously – talk about efficiency!

To get from the airport to Quy Nhon city center, simply hop into an airport taxi or use Grab – super easy and convenient!
From Quy Nhon to Hanoi: My Vietnam Airlines Journey |

As I mentioned earlier, Phu Cat Airport – Quy Nhon's closest air link – is a charmingly small domestic airport.

Right by the airport entrance, you'll find a restaurant and a Highland Coffee – perfect for grabbing a quick bite or a rejuvenating coffee before your flight!

Once you've checked in and passed through security, you'll even discover a cozy lounge inside!

The waiting area inside was cleaner and had more seating than I expected, so waiting wasn't uncomfortable. There were also souvenir shops and restaurants selling things like pho.

The Vietnam Airlines flight from Quy Nhon to Hanoi also had a 3-3 seat configuration, and the journey to Hanoi took about 1 hour and 40 minutes. Simple snacks and drinks were served on this leg.

Quy Nhon is still relatively unknown, making it a wonderful coastal retreat where you can enjoy both the sea and the city in a tranquil atmosphere.
While there are options to travel from Nha Trang or Da Nang by train or sleeping bus, I felt that taking a domestic flight was a perfectly good choice, especially considering your schedule and energy levels.
