Instead of the predictable Waikiki ocean view that everyone goes for,

The Ultimate Value Hotel with a Diamond Head View in Hawaii
One of the absolute must-do experiences
when traveling to Hawaii
is hiking up Diamond Head.
I went on the hike myself, but
to be honest, my favorite moment wasn't
the sweaty trek to the top.

It was the time I spent
at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel, where Diamond Head
unfolded like a painting right outside my room window!

When people think of Hawaii, they usually picture
the deep blue waters of Waikiki Beach,
but just spacing out and staring at
this lush, green mountain view
was incredibly healing in its own way.

Today, I'm sharing my honest, firsthand review,
along with the details you're probably most curious about
while planning your trip—like free parking tips
and the resort fee breakdown!
Queen Kapiolani Hotel Review: How are the Room Condition and Views?
Since I stayed in ocean-view rooms
at most of my other accommodations in Hawaii,
this mountain view definitely felt
a little more unique and special.

If there was one tiny disappointment,
it was that we were assigned a lower floor,
so a bit of the rooftop peeked into our view.
My eyes were so glued to the majestic Diamond Head
that it didn't really bother me much, but
if you absolutely want a high-floor view,
I highly recommend sending a quick email to the hotel in advance.

✅ Room Condition
It was recently remodeled,
so everything inside was super comfortable to use.
Just like other reviews mentioned,
the fixed rain showerhead was a bit inconvenient,
but since so many hotels in Hawaii have these,
I was already pretty used to it.

The first-floor lobby had a stylish boutique hotel vibe,
and during check-in, the staff kindly guided us
to grab a welcome drink of our choice.

✅ Eco-Friendly Initiatives
To help protect its beautiful natural environment,
Hawaii encourages everyone to use filtered water stations
instead of relying on single-use plastic bottles.
When you arrive in your room, you'll find two complimentary reusable water bottles,
which you can easily fill up at the filtered water stations anytime!

✅ Tip for Family Travelers
They actually offer room options with kitchenettes.
Since dining out in Hawaii can be quite expensive,
families traveling together can save a lot of money
by preparing simple meals right in their room.
It's a fantastic way to stretch your travel budget!

During my trip to Hawaii,
staying in a place with a kitchen
seriously saved me so much cash!
What are the Resort Fees and Nightly Rates at Queen Kapiolani Hotel?
When booking a hotel in Hawaii,
one of the most stressful things to look out for
has got to be those sneaky resort fees that can catch you off guard, right?
Category | Details |
Base Room Rate | Booked for around ~$180 |
Resort Fee | Approx. $59 per night (tax included) |
Total Estimated Cost | Around ~$190 per night (including resort fee) |
*Prices may vary depending on exchange rates and season

For my stay, I booked a Diamond Head View room
for about ~$173 per night,
and paid around ~$54 per night for the resort fee.
Honestly, given how notoriously crazy Hawaii lodging prices are,
I'd say this was quite a budget-friendly deal! haha

It's super close to Waikiki Beach
and right near the shore where you can spot Hawaiian monk seals!
What about Nearby Restaurants and Location Accessibility?
Food in Hawaii is already expensive,
and once you add tax and tips, breakfast can cost a fortune.
So, we boldly decided to skip the hotel breakfast entirely!
A huge sacrifice for a self-proclaimed breakfast lover like me...
But the area around the hotel has such amazing spots
that we never had to worry about finding a bite to eat.

Right next to the hotel is the famous
Teddy's Bigger Burgers, which was perfect for a quick meal,
and there's also a Poke Bar nearby.
Plus, the ultimate convenience store,
the ABC Store, is just steps away!

Since the Honolulu Zoo is right across the street,
it's incredibly convenient to walk over with kids,
and it's a lovely spot for a stroll.
The location is also perfect for a leisurely walk along Waikiki Beach.
Queen Kapiolani Hotel Parking Info & Free Parking Hacks!

While parking is available at the hotel,
it is strictly valet-only,
and a daily valet fee will be charged to your room.
We didn't rent a car for this portion of our trip,
which saved us a lot on parking fees.
But if you do plan to rent a car,
be sure to check out the free parking tips around the zoo below!
📌 Honolulu Zoo Parking Hacks & Tips

Around Kapiolani Park (Kalakaua Ave) | Free parking from 6:00 PM (18:00) to 10:00 AM the next day! Paid during the day, but if you park early in the evening and leave in the morning, you can use it completely free. |
If those expensive hotel valet fees feel like a burden, even if it means a short walk,
I highly recommend making the most of these free parking areas!

Be sure to double-check the rules and availability
before you park!
A place that nails the views, value, and warmth
On checkout day, I was so in a rush
that I accidentally walked away with the room keycard still in my pocket.

I only realized it later and rushed back to the hotel
around 10 PM in a total panic to return it.
But the staff member just gave me a huge smile and said it was totally fine!
I was breaking a sweat worrying about it,
but their kind service from start to finish
left me with such a warm, wonderful memory of this place.

Even the pool has a Diamond Head view!!!

The base rate for a Diamond Head View room is around ~$180 per night, and the resort fee is about $59 per night. Including taxes and the resort fee, the total cost comes to around ~$224 per night.
On-site parking at the hotel is available only via valet parking, which incurs an additional daily fee. To save on parking costs, you can use the areas around Kapiolani Park, which are free from 6:00 PM to 10:00 AM the next day, or Monsarrat Avenue, which is free from 5:00 AM to midnight.
For families, choosing a room with a kitchen to cook your own meals can significantly save on food costs amidst Hawaii's high prices. If you prefer dining out, Teddy's Bigger Burgers is right next to the hotel, and Poke Bar and ABC Stores are also nearby, making it easy to find meals.
If you are assigned a lower-floor room, the rooftop might slightly obstruct your view through the window. To fully enjoy the magnificent Diamond Head mountain view, it is highly recommended to email the hotel in advance after booking to request a room on a higher floor.
In accordance with Hawaii's environmental protection policies, rooms are equipped with two empty water bottles instead of disposable plastic water bottles. Guests can use these bottles to freely get water from the water dispensers installed throughout the hotel.
