Hello, fellow adventurers!
I'm your guide from Global Explorer,
always dreaming of the next journey.
Today marks day two of my incredible Phuket trip!
After checking out from Panpuri Residence,
conveniently located near Phuket Airport,
it's time to head to the heart of Phuket's action:
Patong Beach.
My next stop is the Amari Phuket, an ocean-view resort in Patong Beach!
But here’s the million-dollar question...
How do you hail a taxi efficiently in Phuket?
With so many ride-hailing apps available in Phuket,
it can be tough to decide which one to use.
For those of you who might be new to Thai taxi apps,
I've personally tested three of them
and compiled a comparison based on fares, convenience, and payment methods!

<Top 3 Taxi Apps in Phuket, Thailand>

1. Grab
Grab is often called the 'Uber of Southeast Asia'
and is the most widely used all-in-one mobility app in the region.
It's a must-have app for travelers in not only Thailand
but also Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, and beyond.
Grab offers a variety of services, from hailing taxis and motorbikes
to food delivery and car rentals.
You can pay for your rides using both cash and card.
The convenience of in-app card payment means you don't need to worry about currency exchange,
making it incredibly easy to use.

2. Bolt
Originating from Europe, Bolt is a taxi-hailing app
that has been rapidly gaining popularity in Southeast Asia.
While it might have fewer drivers than Grab,
which can make finding a ride challenging at the airport or in remote areas,
it's incredibly useful for getting around city centers like Phuket's Patong Beach or Old Town,
where many drivers are typically available.
Payment options include both cash and card,
and in-app payment is also supported.

3. inDrive
You've probably heard of Grab and Bolt,
but inDrive might be a new name for many of you.
inDrive is a unique ride-hailing app that allows you to propose your own fare.
While you can accept a driver's set price,
its standout feature is the ability to suggest your desired fare
or even negotiate with drivers.
However, there's a catch: when you first sign up for inDrive,
you need to verify your account with a local Thai phone number.
This means if you don't have a local number prepared in advance,
it can be difficult to use.
Also, payments are strictly cash only;
card payments are not accepted.

To use inDrive,
you'll need a Thai AIS SIM card that provides a local number.
I purchased an 8-day, 15GB Thai AIS SIM
and picked it up at Incheon Airport before my trip!
My travel partner opted for roaming, while I used the SIM card.
When searching for restaurants or attractions, checking maps, and using our phones for various needs,
my partner's phone was incredibly slow and sometimes lost connection,
which was really frustrating.
In contrast, my phone, with the AIS 5G SIM, was fast and never disconnected,
so we ended up relying solely on my phone for everything.
It was an affordable way to travel without worrying about data!
I highly recommend the AIS SIM!
<Grab vs. Bolt vs. inDrive Taxi Fare Comparison in Phuket>
I compared the taxi fares of these three apps for routes I actually took.
Route 1:
Panpuri Residence → Amari Phuket (Patong Beach)
Distance: Approximately 24 miles (38 km)
Estimated Time: Approximately 60 minutes

Comparing the three apps, the price difference between Grab and inDrive was almost double!
While inDrive required cash payment, which was a slight inconvenience,
the significant price difference made us choose inDrive for this trip.

Tap 'Find Offers,' and you'll receive fare proposals from nearby drivers.
I chose the driver who was closest to my location!

You can check the car number, vehicle type, driver's photo,
and estimated arrival time directly within the inDrive app.
It was my first time using inDrive, and the driver was incredibly friendly – I was thoroughly impressed!
Route 2:
Amari Phuket → Phuket Old Town
Distance: Approximately 10 miles (16 km)
Estimated Time: Approximately 40 minutes

I checked the taxi fare from Amari Phuket to Old Town Phuket using Grab.
It was ฿500, but with a 20% discount coupon I received today,
the total came down to ฿440.
Let's see what Bolt offered!

Bolt also offered a 20% discount coupon today!
From ฿290, after the 20% discount,
the total was ฿233.

I also checked inDrive.
There were no discount coupons available, and the fare to Old Town Phuket was ฿269.
Thanks to the discount coupon, Bolt turned out to be the cheapest option for Old Town!
The Bolt driver was also very kind, and we arrived comfortably in Old Town.
Based on my personal experience,
inDrive generally offers the lowest taxi fares in Phuket,
for both long and short distances.
However,
fares can vary between apps depending on the time of day,
and Grab and Bolt sometimes offer discount coupons.
So, the best strategy is to open all three apps
and compare the fares to find the best deal!
I hope this helps you save on transportation costs and enjoy an even richer
Phuket adventure in 2026! ^-^

Phuket Patong Beach Accommodation / Amari Phuket Resort Deluxe Ocean Front Balcony Room Review
To register for the inDrive app, you must verify with a local Thai phone number, so you will need a SIM card that provides one. Additionally, card payments are not accepted, so you must prepare cash.
When comparing the fares of both apps for this approximately 38km route, inDrive was found to be almost twice as cheap as Grab. Despite the inconvenience of paying in cash, the significant price difference makes inDrive a better choice.
For this route, the Bolt app was the cheapest at 233 THB after applying a 20% discount coupon. For the same route, Grab was 440 THB after a coupon, and inDrive was 269 THB.
Bolt has fewer drivers than Grab, so it may be difficult to get a ride at the airport or in the outskirts. However, in downtown areas like Patong Beach and Old Town, there are many drivers on standby, making it very useful to use.
