Why I Chose Karon Beach for My Phuket Stay
Many travelers flock to Patong Beach for their Phuket accommodations, but my solo trip was centered more on serene relaxation and soaking in the tranquil vibes. That's why I decided to base myself around the Karon Beach area.
If you go further south, options become scarce, so Karon Beach felt like the perfect balance for my getaway!

Karon Beach has this wonderful atmosphere! It's not overly boisterous, offering a perfect blend of relaxed resort vibes. In the evenings, you'll find local night markets, but without the loud, party-centric nightlife of other areas.
🔻 This is where I stayed 🔻
I booked here knowing that if I found a cheaper price elsewhere, they'd double the compensation – a win-win situation!

There are plenty of cafes and restaurants within walking distance, and beautiful ocean-view cafes were just a quick Grab ride away. However, the downside is that most dining spots and cafes are open-air, meaning no air conditioning.
While Patong Beach has Jungceylon shopping mall with plenty of air-conditioned dining options, Karon and Kata Beaches don't quite offer that mall experience.
My Accidental Air-Conditioned Find!

After sunset, enjoying an ice-cold beer outdoors truly captures the Thai vibe, and I loved it. But during the hot 95-degree Fahrenheit (35°C) daytime hours, I found myself constantly seeking indoor comfort. After about 20 minutes of searching on Google Maps, I stumbled upon this local gem with AC!

It's a classic local Thai restaurant, and the best part? It has indoor seating with air conditioning!

Prices generally range from 120-200 Baht. Honestly, if you compare it to Chiang Mai, it might seem a bit more expensive, but for Phuket's cost of living, these are definitely local restaurant prices!
They also serve Thai beers and whiskies. In the evenings, it seems to be a popular spot for a drink. You can find local Thai whiskies like Mekhong, Saengsom, and Hong Thong here, which would be fun to try.

They offer classic Thai dishes like Tom Yum Goong, Pad Thai, Morning Glory, and Som Tum. I've included photos of the menu – click to enlarge if you want to see all the prices. It was a relief to find a Karon Beach restaurant with an English menu!
These days in Phuket, you'll find fewer Korean tourists, and a significant Russian presence, with about 70% of visitors being Russian nationals. It's common to encounter Russian before English, so having an English menu here was a definite plus.

Since it was daytime, I just had water. Even indoors with AC, the ice melted pretty quickly!

They also have outdoor seating.

The indoor area is packed with fans and powerful air conditioning – a true oasis from the heat! It's interesting because the Russian visitors, who might be even more sensitive to the heat due to their colder climate, often preferred the outdoor seating. Go figure!

Even though it's a local spot, the individual packaging for the cutlery was a nice touch, making it feel extra clean and hygienic. I was really impressed!
There weren't many reviews from Western travelers, so it felt like I'd uncovered a true hidden gem. I highly recommend this spot, especially if you're staying at Mandarava Resort in Phuket (it's just a short walk away!).

I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and Som Tum. I asked for medium spice on the Som Tum, and it had a delightful kick – just enough to make you say 'ooh' but still incredibly tasty!

And let me tell you, the portions are incredibly generous – much larger than they appear! On my solo trip to Karon Beach, I usually manage two dishes easily in Thailand, but I couldn't finish everything here.

The Pad Thai wasn't overly sweet, which I really appreciated, making it even more delicious.

And the Som Tum? It was that perfect, classic green papaya salad – exactly what you hope for!

After my meal, I popped into the 7-Eleven right next door for some essential Thai convenience store shopping. This 7-Eleven near Karon Beach was the largest and had the best selection I found in the area.
Even though the scenery looks perfectly peaceful and sunny, the weather in Phuket definitely calls for some air conditioning!
But after a refreshing meal in an air-conditioned spot, you'll feel re-energized and ready to explore again! My tip? Enjoy an AC lunch, then hit the night markets for a cold beer in the evening. It's the best of both worlds!
That's all for today!

The author chose Karon Beach for a leisurely, healing trip. They liked that Karon Beach wasn't too noisy, offered a pleasant resort atmosphere, and had a local night market in the evenings without a party vibe.
The food prices at this local restaurant range from approximately ~$4 to ~$6. It has air-conditioned indoor seating, and the Thai food menu is available in English, making it easy to order. Additionally, the cutlery is individually wrapped, ensuring cleanliness.
The Chicken Pad Thai was described as delicious because it wasn't overly sweet. The Som Tum, ordered with medium spice, was evaluated as having the authentic taste of papaya salad, enjoyable enough to make one slightly gasp from the spice.
There is a 7-Eleven right next to KB Restaurant. This 7-Eleven is said to be the largest and have the widest variety of products near Karon Beach, making it great for enjoying Thai convenience store shopping.
