Our check-in was at 3:00 PM, but we arrived in Yufuin around 1:00 PM. We originally planned to just drop off our luggage and explore, but the owner generously offered us a complimentary early check-in!

Upon entering the ryokan, past the shoe locker, you'll discover a spacious tatami mat living area. While it's not a luxury ryokan, it perfectly encapsulates the charming, rustic atmosphere of the Japanese countryside.

The living room and bedroom are thoughtfully separated by a partition. The bedroom features a large bed, along with extra futons and pillows, making it ideal for solo travelers or families of 3-4.

Inside the other closet, you'll find two sections. The lower part is spacious enough to comfortably fit four 24-inch suitcases, while the upper section provides hangers for your outerwear, along with yukata robes, body towels, and face towels.

After a relaxing soak in your private onsen, slip into a yukata and truly immerse yourself in the authentic Japanese atmosphere on the tatami mats!

The room is thoughtfully equipped with a microwave, coffee maker, chopsticks, disposable plates, cups, and tea bags. There's even a small drying rack, perfect for hanging wet clothes or towels.

I initially worried about leaves or insects in an outdoor bath, but it was impeccably clean – a pleasant surprise! Soaking in the warm onsen water while enjoying the crisp, cool air with a refreshing sake was pure relaxation.

Since it's a private bath, there are no time restrictions, allowing us to enjoy the onsen whenever we pleased – before bed, for a morning soak, you name it!

So, how can such a private open-air bath be available for only around ~$64-~$128? The reason is that Oyado Gorinka does not offer kaiseki – the traditional multi-course dinner served at many ryokans.

While there's no kaiseki, the incredibly affordable private onsen experience more than makes up for it. You can simply use the money saved to enjoy delicious meals elsewhere, so we didn't feel any disappointment.

However, be aware that there are no convenience stores or restaurants directly near the ryokan. I highly recommend stopping by a convenience store near Yufuin Station to pick up snacks and drinks before taking a taxi, or exploring the Yunotsubo Street for various culinary delights to bring back!
