Comparing Dumbo, SoHo, and Central Park, Plus Photo Shoot Costs
They say what truly lasts from a trip are the photos, right?
I also lived in New York for quite a while,
and as time passed, I found myself constantly revisiting the photos.

Our group, for instance, took photos like this in Dumbo and Central Park.

Looking at them often, I'd think, 'Oh right,
I went there back then!'
You spend so much time and money traveling to New York,
but when you actually come back,
you might have hundreds of photos of New York's scenery, but often,
you find that there aren't many good photos of *you*.
So, this time, I want to explore the best New York photo shoot locations,
and what else you should check besides the cost if you're booking a photo shoot.
I'll share my insights based on places I've personally visited while living in New York.
New York Photo Shoot Location ① Times Square
When you think of New York, one of the first places that comes to mind is
Times Square, of course.
If it's your first time in New York, I think it's a great spot to capture some memories.
With its giant billboards, yellow taxis,
and streets teeming with people,
the advantage is you can get photos that instantly scream 'New York!'

However, the biggest drawback I see is...
the sheer number of people! 😂
Rather than expecting a clean background without people,
it's better to embrace the unique, bustling, and vibrant New York atmosphere that Times Square offers.
So, rather than quiet and natural snapshots,
this spot is better suited for those who want to capture photos that scream, 'I'm in New York!'
② Personally, SoHo is Also Great
Honestly, if I were choosing a New York photo shoot location,
I think SoHo is quite a good option.
Rather than going for one specific photo spot like Dumbo,
the streets themselves have that authentic New York vibe.

SoHo's distinctive buildings and alleys,
crosswalks, and even the general streetscape can all be naturally used as backdrops.
Another advantage is that you can get photos that feel a little less like typical tourist shots than those from Times Square.
What I personally felt during my long stay in New York was that
when you look back at these street photos later, they give you a wonderful sense of everyday life in New York.
If you prefer natural New York street snapshots over flashy touristy photos, then SoHo is your place.
I would definitely put SoHo on my list of candidates.
③ Central Park: Photos with a Seasonal Feel
Central Park has a completely different vibe from the previous two locations.
Just because it's New York doesn't mean you *only* need buildings and billboards in your background, right?
In Central Park, you can use the trees, grass, and walking paths
to take photos with a more relaxed atmosphere.
And this is also a place where the photo atmosphere changes quite a bit with the seasons.
The vibrant greens of spring and summer,
the autumn foliage, and the winter ambiance are all distinct.

If you're a couple or on your honeymoon,
you can capture a totally different atmosphere compared to urban snapshots.
However, based on the photo shoot packages I've checked, for Central Park shoots with two or more people, a more relaxed experience is best achieved with
a 2-hour photo shoot. So, keep that in mind before booking.
④ Dumbo: So Iconic!
And when it comes to New York snapshots, Dumbo is a spot you simply can't leave out.
It's so famous that I almost wonder if it even needs an introduction! 😉
Especially the angle from Washington Street with the Manhattan Bridge in the background
is something you'll see in countless New York travel photos.

If you're visiting New York for the first time
and thinking, 'I really want one photo that clearly says I was in New York!'
then I think Dumbo is one of the most straightforward and best places to choose.
Just keep in mind that precisely because it's so famous, it can also get very crowded.

When my sibling visited, we took photos in Dumbo,
and even now, looking at them, I'll often say, 'We went here!'
'It was so cold because it was winter, right?'
And just like that, we get lost in our memories! 😂
So, Where's the Best Place to Shoot?
To summarize simply, here's how I'd choose:
Glamorous and unmistakably New York → Times Square
Authentic New York street vibes + natural photos → SoHo
Park setting + seasonal feel + couple photos → Central Park
Iconic New York Photo Op → Dumbo
If it's your first time visiting New York, Dumbo is a safe bet,

If you already have some photos of New York's iconic landmarks, or
if you're looking for a slightly different vibe, I'd definitely recommend SoHo too.
Ultimately, it's not about which spot is 'best,' but rather
what kind of photographic memories you want to create that's more important.
New York Photoshoot Costs: Is Price the Only Factor?
As I looked into New York photoshoots,
I found that the price differences were quite significant, more than I expected.
Initially, I looked for private photoshoots lasting about an hour,
and for solo shoots, some packages were in the ~$292 range.
These typically took place in Central Park, Times Square, or SoHo.
While it's great to get some proper photos,
considering overall travel expenses, spending this much on a photoshoot might feel a bit much for some.
So, when comparing New York photoshoot costs, rather than just looking at the price alone,
① Shooting time
② Number of photos provided
③ Whether editing is included
④ If it's a private shoot or a group shoot
⑤ Whether tours or admission tickets are included
I think it's a good idea to consider these factors together.
Especially if a private photoshoot feels too expensive,
a walking tour that includes a photoshoot could be a fantastic alternative.
Heading to DUMBO? Consider a Photoshoot Walking Tour!
One option I found that looked quite good was
a walking tour where you'd meet at 5:30 PM and explore
DUMBO and the Brooklyn Bridge around sunset, all while getting your photos taken.
The reason I casually recommend DUMBO as a photoshoot location for first-time visitors to New York is
because, let's be honest, it's a place you'll probably want to visit at least once during your New York trip anyway.
Rather than making a special trip just for photos,
if you think of it as seeing the DUMBO you planned to visit anyway, and getting photos taken at the same time,
it seems like a really efficient way to use your itinerary!
The package I checked was approximately a 3-hour itinerary,
where you travel from Manhattan to DUMBO by ferry,
walk around DUMBO, and then cross the Brooklyn Bridge.

Rather than just a simple photoshoot, it's more like
a New York walking tour that *includes* a photoshoot.
They even say the ferry price is included.
(Of course, the ferry isn't super expensive;
it was usually around $4.75 when I last rode it).
Photos: 70+ Per Person!
When I look for photoshoots,
I think the number of photos you receive is also important.
When you're shooting, even if you take many similar shots,
someone might have their eyes closed, or their mouth open, haha.
Later, you always end up picking out the best ones from the bunch.
That's why, rather than just looking at the shooting time,
it's better to also check how many final photos you'll actually receive.
Based on the current information, this package provides over 70 photos per person,
and all delivered photos will have overall color correction applied.
However, detailed portrait retouching, such as fine adjustments to faces or body shapes, is not included.
The photos are said to be delivered via a Google Drive link.
While the product description states delivery within 2-3 days,
the inclusions section says within 4-5 days,
so the delivery times differ.
If the exact photo delivery date is important to you, it might be a good idea to confirm before booking.
The Course: Ferry to DUMBO!
The course itself is pretty straightforward.
Manhattan → East River Ferry → DUMBO → Brooklyn Bridge
That's the route.
The ferry ticket is included in the package price, and the current product page states there are no separate tips or additional charges.
Personally, if you're going to DUMBO,
I think combining it with the Brooklyn Bridge is a great itinerary flow.
Because you're not just taking photos in DUMBO and heading back;
you also get to walk the Brooklyn Bridge and enjoy the stunning Manhattan skyline views!

Also, it's a small-group tour with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 people, so it's not a completely private photoshoot.
While you can apply solo,
the tour itself requires a minimum of 2 participants to proceed.
So,
If you want to focus entirely on your own shoot → opt for a private photoshoot
If you want to sightsee in DUMBO *and* get photos → choose the photoshoot walking tour
You can choose based on these preferences.
This Tour Is Perfect For You If...
You want amazing New York travel photos but find private shoot prices a bit steep,
You're already planning to include DUMBO and the Brooklyn Bridge in your itinerary anyway,
You're traveling solo and don't have anyone to take your photos,
Or if you're traveling with friends or as a couple and want beautiful photos of you both together, it's definitely worth comparing!
On the other hand, if capturing those perfect shots is the main goal of your adventure,
and you want ample time to shoot with just your group
at your desired time and place, then a private photoshoot might be your perfect match.
