Ngorongoro Crater Safari: Tanzania Honeymoon Tour 2026
Our Tanzania safari honeymoon concluded at the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. Witness diverse wildlife, stunning landscapes. Plan your unforgettable African adventure!
Today marks the grand finale of our incredible 4-day Tanzania safari adventure!
Our last day's itinerary included:
✔️ Morning exploration of the Ngorongoro Crater
✔️ Afternoon departure from Arusha Airport
Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater

The Ngorongoro Crater is an immense caldera, encompassing forests and savanna regions. We were about to descend into the crater's unique landscape, as you can see in the photos.
I was initially surprised to see rain – our first since arriving in Africa – but it literally lasted less than four minutes! Talk about a quick shower!

Elephants just casually strolling by... I saw an elephant standing perfectly still in the thick fog and honestly thought it was a statue. Imagine my surprise when it actually moved!

And then, the adorable Pumbaa (warthogs)! Despite their confident stance, they are true scaredy-cats. They were probably the most timid animals we encountered, scurrying away with tiny steps at the slightest sound of our vehicle – it was incredibly cute!

Wow... what a magnificent and picturesque scene! It truly felt like a painting. Seeing elephants within the crater offered an entirely different, equally awe-inspiring experience.

We also spotted a small fox! (Likely a black-backed jackal.) There are so many types of foxes, and our guide, James, knew them all, explaining their names and characteristics. This particular fox was on maximum alert, staring intently at us before going on its way.

When we first set off, the fog was so thick I wondered if we'd see anything at all, casting anxious glances at James. But then...

Voila! As we descended into the crater, the sky miraculously cleared up! No wonder James looked so confident while we were full of worries. Africa's weather truly is something else!

Peeking out! Isn't this little guy adorable?

And then... something that truly left us speechless. This was perhaps the most impressive moment in all of Tanzania. A flock of flamingos, easily five times the size of what you see in the photos, gracefully showing off their vivid colors. Just look at that mesmerizing pink!

Though it was our first time seeing one in Africa, we also spotted a cute rabbit! How James manages to spot even the tiniest animals still amazes me. It reaffirmed that choosing this tour company was absolutely the right decision!

One last shot with the caldera as our backdrop before we left!

As we exited the crater, we entered a savanna landscape. Here, we primarily saw monkeys and elephants, with a particularly large number of elephant families.

A quick restroom break in the middle of our journey!

We heard there wasn't much food inside the crater, and indeed, all the wildebeest looked quite thin. It was a bit heartbreaking to see.

We saw a golden jackal, different from the black-backed jackal we'd spotted a few hours earlier. They look so similar, I wondered how James could tell them apart! A quick search online confirmed there are indeed subtle differences.

We got incredibly close to a buffalo, and it was fascinating to see the distinct growth rings on its horns up close.

We concluded our journey at a final viewpoint, marking the end of our 4-day Tanzania safari.
Following our guide's lead made the trip surprisingly easy, with no major difficulties.
The weather, long drives, and even the restroom stops were all manageable. My only minor complaint would be the repetitive lunchboxes over the five days. For a couple who loves good food, they were a bit of a challenge! (You can opt for a more delicious lunch by paying an additional fee.)
However, we felt incredibly fortunate to have had James as our guide. He truly made our 4-day safari an unforgettable experience.
Unlike other guides who stuck to crowded paths, James led us to hidden spots and, through radio communication, gifted us with rare wildlife sightings. Thanks to him, our African honeymoon became an even more special and cherished memory.
(We presented him with a thank-you note and a tip.)
*Tips are usually given on the last day, covering the full 5 days, and typically range from ~$10-15 per day, totaling ~$50-75 for the trip.*
