Monaco & South of France Day Trip Recommendation
Hey there, fellow adventurers!
I'm your travel blogger, Bybae, and today I'm diving into Monaco's weather, essential travel tips, and a fantastic day tour that includes Monaco and the stunning South of France!
If you're planning a trip to Nice and the French Riviera, you might be wondering whether to include Monaco in your itinerary. Good news! A day tour is a brilliant way to see it all without the hassle of extra accommodation, making it super convenient.
Before you go, you're probably curious about the weather, rainfall, and when you can actually take a dip in the gorgeous Mediterranean Sea. I've got all that covered for you! (• ᴗ •„)
One of the first things I always check when planning a trip is the weather! This was my first European summer trip, and I was especially looking forward to swimming at Monte Carlo Beach.
Monaco boasts a **Mediterranean climate**, meaning its **summers are warm and dry**, while **winters are relatively mild**.
When I visited a few winters ago, daytime temperatures felt like a mild autumn, comfortable enough without a jacket. Only in the evenings did I need a light down jacket and a scarf to stay cozy!
To give you a quick overview of monthly temperatures:
**Daytime highs start at around 57°F (14°C) in January and 59°F (15°C) in February**, soaring to a **peak of 86°F (30°C) in August** during the summer.
**Nighttime lows can dip to a chilly 45°F (7°C) in January**, but climb to a **maximum of 75°F (24°C) in August**.
Generally, **summer (June-July) is the driest period**, with most of the rainfall concentrated between winter and spring. So, if you're traveling in summer, you likely won't need to worry about rain. For winter or spring trips, it's a good idea to pack a light rain jacket and an umbrella! (๑・‿・๑)
2. Best Time for Sea Swimming
The sea temperature is lowest in February at 55°F (13°C) and warmest in mid-summer, reaching 75°F (24°C) in August.
From my experience, the sea feels comfortable for swimming **from late June through mid-September**, with July and August being absolutely perfect for a dip.
During this period, water temperatures consistently stay above 72°F (22°C), and it's not overly hot if you can find some shade!
I stayed at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and enjoyed swimming at the small beach next to it. However, the most popular spot for travelers is Larvotto Beach!
I only passed by Larvotto Beach during a stroll, but its fine sand and excellent facilities – including nearby cafes, restaurants, and showers – make it ideal for spending an entire day.
Just a tip: visiting Monaco's beaches in late June means warm water and fewer crowds, making for a perfectly relaxed swimming experience.
3. South of France & Monaco Day Tour
If you're hesitating to visit Monaco during your South of France trip due to time or cost, I highly recommend a day tour! It's an efficient way to explore both the South of France and Monaco in one unforgettable day.
The tour kicks off with breathtaking views along the Moyenne Corniche, showcasing the picturesque Villefranche-sur-Mer and the stunning Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula.
Next, you'll explore Eze, a charming medieval village perched high on the coast. Wander its cobblestone streets, discover the Exotic Garden, and visit the renowned Fragonard perfume factory.
Upon arrival in Monaco, you'll delve into its key attractions: the Old Town on the rock, the Prince's Palace with its Changing of the Guard ceremony, and the grand Cathedral. The tour also includes a drive along the famous F1 circuit, culminating at the iconic Monte Carlo Casino, ensuring you experience the very best of Monaco.
