A Macau 1-Night, 2-Day Independent Travel Itinerary
That Will Make Travel Agencies Jealous

Among travelers visiting Hong Kong,
many also take the opportunity to explore Macau.
I, too, felt it would be a shame to only visit Hong Kong this time,
so I embarked on a 1-night, 2-day independent trip to Macau!
How can you have a fun and fulfilling trip
without any hiccups?
I'll share everything you need to know, from travel expenses and accommodation to the itinerary!
Table of Contents |
1. How to Take the Ferry from Hong Kong to Macau |
2. Value-for-Money Accommodations & Staycation Hotels |
3. Restaurants & Cafes |
4. A Glimpse at the 1-Night, 2-Day Itinerary |
5. Concluding Thoughts |
1. How Do I Take the Ferry to Macau?

For those traveling to Hong Kong and Macau,
you can travel between the two by ferry.
There are two ferry companies,
but I personally recommend taking a Cotai ferry because they have more operating hours and larger vessels.
(Larger boats mean less rocking and a safer ride!)
KKday | Klook | MyRealTrip |
~$20 | ~$20 | ~$19 |
As of October 12th,
MyRealTrip offered the lowest price for bookings.
When there are many tourists traveling between the two, popular time slots often sell out,
so it's a good idea to book in advance.
Three years ago, I didn't book in advance and ended up taking a ferry 1-2 hours later than intended.
So many people use it, I strongly recommend booking ahead.
2. Where to Find a Value-for-Money 5-Star Hotel?

It's no exaggeration to say that most people come to Macau
for a 'hocance' (hotel vacation/staycation).
That's how much of a difference there is compared to Hong Kong; for the same price,
you can stay in a much more spacious room with superior quality –
that was a huge advantage.

The hotel I stayed at was The Parisian Macao,
where I could enjoy a 5-star experience for around ~$74.
The pool was expansive, and the room condition and
size were so good I'd give it 5 stars.

As you can see from the photos,
there's a reason it's known as a value-for-money hotel in Macau.
The pool was truly massive, and the shower facilities were excellent.

Moreover, it's often called the 'Europe of Asia,'
and the night views were so beautiful that every photo turned out to be a 'life shot' (a once-in-a-lifetime photo)!
(You can enjoy the Eiffel Tower and beautiful night scenery right from the hotel!)

Different hotels are also interconnected, so even without going outside,
you can explore and use the amenities of other hotels.
This was great because, even on bad weather days, all your entertainment and dining needs
could be met indoors.

I guess this is why so many people visit Macau
for a 'hocance'!
3. Recommended Restaurants & Cafes to Visit?

Macau also had many delicious restaurants and cafes.
You can catch a bus right in front of the hotel to Senado Square, a major tourist spot,
so I visited a restaurant and a cafe there. I'll share my reviews for each.

In Senado Square, you'll find Wong Chi Kei,
a restaurant famous for its wonton noodles, which became even more widely known
after Baek Jong-won visited it.

When I visited that day, many families were there,
but the turnover was quick, so we didn't have to
wait long for a table.
Personally, I found the stir-fried beef noodles
more delicious than the wonton noodles.
(While the shrimp wontons were tasty, the noodles inside
might feel a bit tough and not very appealing to children, so keep that in mind!)

Afterward, I stopped by a cafe that had a Google rating of 4.5 or higher.
The cafe's name was Triangle Coffee Roasters, and its quiet, calm interior made it perfect for relaxing.
My friend and I enjoyed warm cafe lattes and matcha lattes.
The lattes were so rich and flavorful, it was easy to see
why it had such high ratings.
If you're someone who loves a delicious latte,
you absolutely must check out Triangle Coffee Roasters!

Additionally, for those who might prefer to stay within the hotel,
I'll share some indoor restaurants and cafes.
Be sure to also visit **North Palace, a Chinese restaurant in The Venetian Hotel
that perfectly suits Korean tastes, and Lord Stow's Bakery,
known for having MACAU's number one egg tarts!**
Must-Visit Restaurants & Cafes | |
Near Senado Square | Inside the Hotel |
Wong Chi Kei: Personally, I found the stir-fried beef noodles more delicious than the wonton noodles. It had a jjajangmyeon-like flavor, so kids loved it too. | North Palace: Personally, a place that deserves more than 5 stars! Every single dish perfectly suited Korean palates, and it's a restaurant where everyone, including kids and families, can enjoy a delicious meal without any fuss. |
Triangle Coffee Roasters: The lattes are nutty and smooth, so if you love a savory latte, you absolutely must visit! | Lord Stow's Bakery: I've tried egg tarts elsewhere, but this one truly stands out as number one. The pastry is incredibly crisp, and the egg custard filling is so smooth and creamy that it was delicious enough to devour in an instant! |
4. A Perfectly Curated 1-Night, 2-Day Itinerary

If you follow this itinerary, you can enjoy a rich and fun trip
independently, without needing a travel agency!
A Successful 1-Night, 2-Day Itinerary |
1. Morning Breakfast |
2. Take the bus to Senado Square (A must-get photo op!) |
3. Lunch at a restaurant & cafe in Senado Square (Refer to the restaurants and cafes mentioned above) |
4. Rua da Felicidade (Perfect for souvenir shopping!) |
5. St. Dominic's Church (Take photos with the yellow church as your backdrop) |
6. Ruins of St. Paul's (A historically significant site, with only the southern facade and grand staircase remaining) |
7. Taipa Village (Full of local delights like egg tarts and pork chop buns) |
8. Return to the hotel, explore The Venetian (Experience the Venetian canals of Italy!) |
9. Dinner (North Palace, Lord Stow's, etc.) |
10. Conclude the day |

Just as I laid out in the itinerary table,
if you quickly visit the main tourist attractions in a single day,
you can see most of the essential spots.
In particular, the Ruins of St. Paul's, with its historical significance,
is a prominent photo spot where many people take pictures,
so be sure to capture a memory here!

Also, streets like Rua da Felicidade offer a wide array of delicious foods
and desserts, making it a trip that delights both your eyes and your palate!

If it happens to rain or the weather isn't great,
you can still explore the Venetian canals inside the hotel and even take a gondola ride!
With a variety of shopping options, a CASINO, restaurants, and cafes all inside,
you'll lose track of time exploring and enjoy everything with utmost convenience.
5. Wrapping Up

Macau truly boasts as many sights, delicious foods,
and entertainment options as Hong Kong, so it would be a shame to miss out!
If you're planning a trip to Hong Kong, I highly recommend carving out
a day or two to follow my suggested 1-night, 2-day independent travel itinerary for Macau!
You'll get to explore iconic landmarks, savor amazing food at restaurants and cafes,
and even indulge in a relaxing hotel staycation.
