To cut to the chase, not only was the meat quality exceptional, but Okatora also stood out as a fantastic Kobe Wagyu spot for families, offering private rooms, an English-supported tablet ordering system, and even stroller storage.

2. Ambiance and Interior
The restaurant spans three floors, making it much more spacious inside than it appears from the outside. They offer private rooms, which are fantastic for families or groups dining with children, providing a more comfortable and relaxed experience.
Ordering is a breeze with the tablet on each table, which supports English. It was incredibly convenient not to have to struggle with translating a menu during our Japan trip.
For parents, one of the best features was the stroller storage available on the first floor. Seeing other strollers neatly folded there confirmed that this is indeed a welcoming spot for families with little ones!
Interestingly, Okatora is known to be operated by a former baseball player. The hallway between the first and second floors is adorned with baseball photos and memorabilia, and the first-floor counter is covered with autographs from various celebrities, making for an enjoyable visual experience. It definitely offers a different vibe than your typical yakiniku restaurant.
3. The Kobe Wagyu Yakiniku Experience
A Must-Try in Japan
We started by ordering a 2-person meat set, then added more Sukiyaki-style beef.
The set menu is a great option for first-time visitors as it allows you to sample various cuts. As the meat hit the charcoal grill, a rich, savory aroma filled the air, and the marbled cuts melted in our mouths with a wonderfully tender texture.
Every cut of meat was delicious, keeping our tongs busy. Even with the hot grill in front of us, the air conditioning inside was efficient, so we didn't feel uncomfortably warm, which was a big plus.
Our child particularly enjoyed the 'rosu' (loin) cut; it was thin and tender, not chewy at all. So, if you're dining with kids, the rosu is definitely a great choice.
We also ordered the assorted kimchi set. Many yakiniku restaurants in Japan don't offer side dishes as a default, so ordering kimchi separately is common. It perfectly complemented the rich beef.
We also tried the fresh lettuce salad (sangchu geotjeori), and it was surprisingly delicious! When you're continuously eating rich meat, a fresh, tangy dressing helps cleanse the palate, making it a great addition between bites.
For our final meal courses, we opted for seaweed soup, cold noodles (naengmyeon), and stone pot bibimbap. Mixing various vegetables and rice in the sizzling hot stone pot provided a much more satisfying and hearty finish than just eating meat. Cleansing our palates with cold noodles and then enjoying the bibimbap made for a truly complete dinner.
Okatora Sannomiya not only excels in Kobe Wagyu but also offers a variety of familiar dishes like kimchi, seaweed soup, cold noodles, and stone pot bibimbap, catering well to international tastes. The private rooms and English-enabled tablet ordering make it incredibly comfortable for families with children. We particularly enjoyed the dipping sauce on the far right, which had a subtle flavor reminiscent of ssamjang (a Korean dipping sauce), adding a delightful umami kick.
If you're planning to visit Kobe Suma Sea World or Harborland and looking for a fantastic dinner spot in the Sannomiya area, Okatora Sannomiya is a highly recommended Kobe yakiniku restaurant to add to your itinerary.
