JR Kyushu Station Hotel Kokura
For those traveling from Busan to Shimonoseki by ferry,
the most preferred accommodation location is
Kokura.
When you take the train from Shimonoseki and get off directly at Kokura Station,
the hotel is directly connected to the train station.
If you arrive directly after the 8 AM ferry, you'll be there by 8:30 AM,
making it perfect to drop off your luggage and start your day's itinerary.
Plus, after shopping at the mall right in front of Kokura Station,
you can easily go back and forth to your accommodation,
which is why it's also called a "location king" hotel.
Not only for Kokura city, but also for Mojiko Retro
and taking the Kanmon Ferry to Shimonoseki and Karato Market,
if your itinerary covers all these spots, convenient transportation and
a good surrounding commercial area are essential.

Kokura Station's 3rd-floor ticket gate is directly connected to the hotel lobby,
so there's no need to drag heavy luggage along outdoor streets.

Connected to a large shopping mall, you can find convenience stores, drugstores,
an underground food hall, and restaurants without even stepping outside the station.
Everything can be sorted out here.
✔️ Easy Access to Airport and Other Regions
The Kitakyushu Airport limousine bus stop is right in front,
and if you arrive from Fukuoka Hakata by Shinkansen or Limited Express Sonic,
you're directly connected to the hotel.
The date I visited was right after Japan's Obon holiday,
so it was a little cheaper.

2. Perfect for Mojiko and Shimonoseki Ferry Travel
Karato Market, a highlight of Shimonoseki,
is famous for selling fresh sushi on weekend mornings (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).
To visit Karato Market and Akama Shrine,
this is also a place you must pass through.
Also, you absolutely must pass through here to get to Mojiko.
If you take the ferry, you'll travel to Shimonoseki and
then it's a quick 5-minute ferry ride!
Or, you can take the train directly to Mojiko Station,
which is incredibly convenient.
From Kokura Station, you can head to Karato Market early in the morning,
enjoy sushi, then take the ferry to Mojiko.
After exploring Mojiko Retro, you can return by subway.
3. More Affordable Hotels Compared to Fukuoka
Hotel prices in Fukuoka city soared last year, didn't they?
They haven't really come down to affordable levels even now.
Compared to Fukuoka's Hakata and Tenjin areas,
this place is about 30% cheaper.
Currently, prices are around ~$69 on weekdays
and around ~$138 on weekends.

The rooms are quite a bit more spacious than typical business hotels in Japan,
making for a much more satisfying stay.
4. Superior View Double Room
The Superior View Double Room is an 18m2 room.
While the room size is the same as a standard double room,
its distinguishing feature is being on a higher floor with a great view.
Here's the monorail visible from the window.
This is the double bed (for two people).
Japanese business hotels often provide pajamas like these,
which means you don't need to pack your own and can lighten your luggage!
Room amenities include an air purifier and an ironing board.
It seems ironing boards are a common fixture, likely because many business travelers stay here.
Generally, most other hotels I've stayed at also had ironing boards.
Two bottles of mineral water and a mini-fridge.
Basic amenities are also provided in the bathroom.
In Korean hotels, due to regulations on disposable items, toothbrushes are often not provided,
but Japan still provides toothbrushes!
You can even enjoy a half-bath in the tub!
Instead of a separate closet, you'll find clothes hangers right as you enter the room.
Luggage storage is available for self-service.
After checking out, I secured my bags with a passcode here,
and picked them up when I returned to Shimonoseki.
