Istanbul, whether you're in the Old City or the New City, is full of hills. If you pick the wrong accommodation, you might find yourself exhausted before your day even begins!
Having visited Istanbul many times, I've rounded up three places I've stayed that were wonderfully comfortable and free from steep climbs.

Why Check for Hills?
First off, Istanbul is divided into European and Asian sides by the Bosphorus Strait,
And even within the European side,
the atmosphere completely changes between the Old City (like Sultanahmet, Sirkeci, etc.) and the New City (like Taksim, Beyoğlu, Karaköy, etc.).
Most of the major tourist attractions are concentrated in the Old City, while the New City is more like a modern, bustling downtown area.
Perhaps because Istanbul is famously built on seven hills, you'll often find steep uphills (or downhills) even a short distance from a station.
Add bumpy cobblestone streets to the mix, and navigating with a suitcase becomes a real challenge!

Location and Room Tour
It's ideally located, just a 10-15 minute walk to major attractions like the Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan Sarayı), Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, and Topkapi Palace.
Being close to the tram station makes getting around incredibly easy, and with plenty of great restaurants and cafes nearby, you won't even need to venture far. I also felt very safe walking around the neighborhood at night.
I loved that the rooms had hardwood floors instead of carpet, and the bright lighting made it feel much more comfortable than the dark hostels and Airbnbs I'd stayed in before.
The room size was also just right for two people.
However, in the evenings, the noise from the adjacent room was quite loud in the bathroom, which was a bit inconvenient.
The water quality wasn't the best.
Breakfast wasn't extravagant,
but it was enough for a simple meal.
If you're considering location, cleanliness, and cost, this place perfectly fits the bill.

Pros and Cons from Two Stays
I stayed at this accommodation twice,
and the pros and cons varied depending on the room type.
First off, the location is fantastic! It's right next to the main road where the tram runs, and being between Gülhane Station and Sirkeci Station means you can reach either in just 3-4 minutes on foot.
Using the tram, you can get to the Grand Bazaar, Galata Tower, Taksim Square, and Dolmabahçe Palace within 20 minutes.
During my first visit, I had a triple room, but it was a bit cramped, making it awkward to fully open a 25-inch suitcase.
With the tram passing right in front of the hotel, the rattling noise was clearly audible, and the call to prayer (Azaan) from a nearby mosque automatically woke me up every day at 5:50 AM.
My second stay was in a twin room, which was more spacious than the triple room, offering plenty of space to open two suitcases.
No noise whatsoever could be heard from outside the window. However, if you opened the window, all you could see was a wall and an emergency staircase, so the natural light and view weren't great.
I can't talk about this place without mentioning the water quality; accommodations in the Sirkeci area generally aren't great. Here, too, the filter turns brown after just two showers.
The staff isn't available 24 hours a day, so if you encounter an issue or need to check in late, you'll have to contact them via WhatsApp.

A Closer Look: Location and Rooms
After comparing many options, I decided on Midtown Hotel because of its fantastic location and positive reviews.
It's super convenient to get around, being just a 3-minute walk from Taksim Square and Taksim Metro Station, and only 5 minutes from the airport bus stop.
Even though it's right by a bustling area, I never had trouble sleeping due to noise at night.
Some reviews mentioned a cigarette smell, but there was absolutely none in my room. I did notice it in the hallway during cleaning times, though.
The bedding? Absolutely spotless!
The water quality here is actually better than in the Old City. I used a filter for three days, and it barely changed color!
For breakfast, you'll find over 10 types of bread alone, including simit, ekmek, and croissants, plus a fantastic variety of Turkish and Western dishes.

Final Thoughts
I can confidently recommend all three of these hotels, as I've personally stayed at each one. While their locations differ, they all definitely meet one crucial criterion: being super easy to navigate with luggage, with no steep inclines or declines.

Breakfast at Downtown Sirkeci Hotel is served from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM on weekdays. On weekends, it is available from 7:30 AM to 11:00 AM.
The triple room at Asilzade Sirkeci Hotel was a bit cramped, making it difficult to fully open a 25-inch suitcase. In contrast, the twin room was more spacious than the triple room, providing ample space to open two suitcases.
Taksim Midtown Hotel is a 3-minute walk from Taksim Square and Taksim Metro Station. It's only a 5-minute walk to the Havabus airport shuttle stop, making transportation very convenient.
Accommodations in the Sirkeci area generally have poor water quality. At Asilzade Sirkeci Hotel, the filter turns brown after just two showers.
From Downtown Sirkeci Hotel, major tourist attractions such as Basilica Cistern, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, and Topkapi Palace are all within a 10 to 15-minute walk. Its proximity to the tram station makes transportation convenient, and there are many good restaurants and cafes nearby.
