Mosque Prayer Times

There are five daily prayer times, which vary slightly depending on the sun's position. During these times, tourists are restricted from entering the mosque interior. You'll typically need to wait for about 30 minutes to an hour before re-entry is permitted.

Waiting outside on a beautiful day isn't so bad, but if it's raining in winter, even 30 minutes can feel like an eternity!

From a tourist's perspective, the Dhuhr (noon) and Asr (afternoon) prayer times are usually the ones that might affect your visit.

Friday's noon prayers are particularly significant and large, so tourist entry usually resumes only after 2:30 PM. It's often easier to avoid planning mosque visits during Friday afternoons altogether.

Süleymaniye Mosque
