Iceland Reykjavik Lava Show Review
See real 1,100℃ lava right before your eyes
If you're looking for a truly special experience
you absolutely must try in Iceland,
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Lava Show.

Because you can vividly witness hot lava,
reaching a scorching 1,100℃,
glowing red and flowing right before your eyes.
What's it like to actually come face-to-face with lava
that you've only seen in photos or videos?
If you're curious, there's only one way to find out: experience it for yourself!!

Our family loved this unique experience so much that we watched the Lava Show
twice during our trip to Iceland,
both in Reykjavik and Vík!
Although it was the same Lava Show, the charm of each location was distinct.

Today, I'll introduce the Reykjavik Lava Show first,
and in a future post,
I'll delve into a detailed comparison of the differences between the two locations.
Since seating is limited per show,
I recommend **booking online in advance**
if you want to watch at your preferred time.
Especially if your travel itinerary is set,
it's more reassuring to book in advance
than to try and get tickets on-site.

What is the Iceland Lava Show?
The Lava Show in Iceland is a unique indoor experience
where real rocks are heated to extreme temperatures, melted,
and then poured directly in front of the audience.
A major advantage is that since it's an indoor event,
it's not affected by the weather.

Iceland is a country with active volcanic activity.
As you travel, you'll encounter a variety of volcanic landscapes,
including black volcanic rock and lava fields.
However, seeing solidified lava is an entirely different experience
from directly observing hot, molten lava
flowing.

At the Lava Show,
real rocks are heated to approximately 1,100℃, melted,
and then poured into a safely controlled indoor space.
Being able to see the reddish-orange glowing lava move
right before your eyes is the real! huge! attraction.
What can you see at the Lava Show?
① Real, flowing molten lava
The core of the Lava Show is the sight of actual lava flowing.
When the show begins,
you'll first watch a video about Iceland's volcanoes and geology and
listen to the presenter's explanation.
(The video quality is quite good, and it's easy to understand.)
Although the explanation is in English,
if you use ChatGPT's real-time voice feature nowadays,
you can understand it as if it's being interpreted.

After listening to the presenter's explanation,
you'll put on safety glasses and watch the main lava demonstration.
The hot molten lava glows in a dazzling orange and
moves very slowly.
As time passes, you can also observe its surface darkening and
solidifying.

What makes it truly special is being able to witness scenes you've only ever seen in videos,
right before your eyes!
It's not just about watching lava;
you also get to see how it transforms as it cools.
② The Sounds and Heat of Flowing Lava
It's not just a feast for your eyes.
You can hear the sizzling sound of hot lava flowing and
the crackling as it cools,
and you can truly feel the heat radiating from the lava.
(This is genuinely why you absolutely HAVE to see it!!)
Especially as the lava moves right before your eyes,
you'll feel an immersive presence unlike anything you'd get from watching a video.
It was a moment where I truly realized, with my entire body,
that lava reaching approximately 1,100℃ genuinely exists!

However, as this is an experience where you're up close with hot lava,
it's absolutely crucial to wear protective eyewear and
follow all on-site safety guidelines.
③ Commentary on Iceland's Volcanoes and Geology
The Lava Show isn't just about showcasing lava.
A presenter explains Iceland's volcanic activity and
geological features,
helping you understand these natural phenomena.
The show includes a short educational video about volcanoes,
and through the English commentary,
you'll learn about volcanic topography and the characteristics of lava.
Admission Fees and Recommended Programs
The Reykjavik Lava Show is
divided into Classic and Premium experiences.

The **Classic** experience
focuses on the lava demonstration and commentary,
costing 6,590 ISK for adults,
and 3,590 ISK for children under 12.
The **Premium** experience is 9,990 ISK for adults,
and includes additional benefits like drinks, lounge access, and a lava souvenir.
Honestly, if your main goal is to witness real lava,
the Classic option is more than enough.
👉 Book the Reykjavik Lava Show Classic here
In fact, the Classic ticket often lets you see
the flowing lava up close, so
unless those extra perks are
absolutely essential, I'd recommend the Classic.
(The show lasts approximately 50 minutes to 1 hour)
Top Tips Before You Go

It's a good idea to arrive
at least 15-20 minutes before the show begins.
If you booked online,
simply present your e-ticket at the venue.
The show starts promptly, and
seating is first-come, first-served, so
arriving a bit early allows you to get a good spot.
Protective eyewear is absolutely mandatory.
Safety goggles are provided at the venue before entry.
You must wear the protective eyewear as instructed
while the lava flows and cools.
You might feel the heat in the show area.
Since the indoor temperature rises when the hot lava is brought in,
it's best to wear lighter clothing.

If you're planning a trip to Iceland,
I highly recommend the Reykjavik Lava Show!
