Hyatt Regency Waikiki Review: The Ultimate Honeymoon Hotel in Hawaii |

Whenever we plan a trip to Hawaii, picking the right hotel is always the hardest part of the process.
Waikiki is packed with iconic resorts, and by the time you compare prices, locations, room types, and ocean views, making a final decision can feel overwhelming.
With wedding season in full swing, we spent a long time comparing the most popular Hawaii honeymoon accommodations before finally making our choice.
When we visited Honolulu last November, we split our time between two properties.
One of those was the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa.
Spoiler alert: choosing this property for a romantic getaway was one of the best decisions we made.
1. The 3 Most Important Criteria for a Honeymoon Hotel

When comparing hotels in Hawaii, we narrowed our priorities down to three main things:
1️⃣ A central Waikiki location
2️⃣ Honeymoon-worthy room conditions and overall vibe
3️⃣ Plenty of on-site amenities to enjoy without leaving the resort
The Hyatt Regency Waikiki checked all three boxes effortlessly.
Especially if it's your first time visiting Hawaii as a newlywed couple,
convenience is key—and you really can't beat being right in the heart of Waikiki!
2. Why the Location is Absolutely Unbeatable

The biggest selling point of this hotel is that it sits directly across from Waikiki Beach.
You just cross one street, and your toes are in the sand.
Plus, the best shopping malls, restaurants, and cafes are practically right outside the lobby.
◾ Easy walking distance to the International Market Place
◾ Right in the center of Waikiki's main commercial strip
◾ Totally doable without needing a rental car
When you look at the map and compare it to other resorts,
it becomes obvious why people constantly praise the Hyatt Regency for having the most convenient location.

If location is your top priority,
you'll inevitably find yourself coming back to this hotel.
Room rates fluctuate depending on the season, so it's best to check real-time availability.

3. Our Room: The Junior Suite (#2657)

For this trip, we decided to book a Junior Suite.
We were assigned Room 2657, and the layout was absolutely perfect for a romantic getaway.

◾ Noticeably more spacious than standard rooms
◾ A naturally separated living room and bedroom area
◾ Private balcony included
◾ A layout that never feels cramped, even for longer stays
We debated whether upgrading to a suite was really necessary,
but after experiencing it, we highly recommend the Junior Suite for honeymooners. The extra space makes a massive difference.

The bathroom was spotless. Note that they don't provide single-use plastic water bottles; instead, you get branded Hyatt Regency reusable bottles to fill up at the filtered water stations on your floor—a great eco-friendly touch.
4. The In-Room Vibe

We visited during November,
and the weather was absolutely spectacular.
Having been to Hawaii in both June and November, I can confidently say it's stunning year-round!
It wasn't overly hot, and the humidity was low (hovering around a breezy 80°F), making our downtime on the balcony incredibly relaxing.
Sipping coffee in the morning while watching the bustling Waikiki streets below,
and winding down at night gazing out at the illuminated shoreline—
those quiet moments are what made the Hyatt Regency Waikiki feel like such a special honeymoon spot.
5. Pool & Cabana Rentals: A Perfect Resort Day

The Hyatt Regency Waikiki features a beautiful outdoor pool area.
We rented a cabana for the day to really lean into the vacation mindset!

◾ Alternating between swimming and lounging in the shade
◾ Easy poolside drink service
◾ A great way to guarantee privacy during peak hours
We highly recommend dedicating at least one day of your itinerary
to skipping the sightseeing and just enjoying the resort amenities.
6. Beach Chairs and Waikiki Sunsets
Another highlight of our stay
was borrowing chairs from the pool deck and taking them across to Waikiki Beach for sunset.
Sitting by the water as the sky turned shades of orange and pink,
it was one of those "this is why we came to Hawaii" moments.

Watching a couple of girls in front of us hype each other up while taking golden hour photos was such a vibe—it's impossible not to catch that infectious Hawaiian vacation energy.
You can really only do this seamlessly if your hotel is steps from the sand.
It reaffirmed that prioritizing a beachfront location was the right call.
7. VIP NA Lei Aloha Luau Show
One evening, we stayed in to watch the hotel's own VIP Na Lei Aloha Luau Show.
You can choose a dinner-included package or opt for just the show,
which features incredible traditional Hawaiian performances.

◾ Authentic Hawaiian music and dancing
◾ Dinner options available
◾ No transportation needed—just take the elevator down!
Being able to experience a luau without having to book a shuttle or drive across the island
makes it the perfect low-stress evening for honeymooners.
If you want to check a luau off your Hawaii bucket list,
this on-site option is incredibly convenient.

Currently, the dinner-inclusive package isn't available for booking, so we recommend grabbing a quick bite before heading down to enjoy the performance.
8. The Buffet at Hyatt Dinner Review

Another memorable meal was our dinner at The Buffet at Hyatt.
◾ An impressive array of fresh seafood
◾ A huge variety of carving stations and decadent desserts
◾ Popular with both hotel guests and locals
For those nights when you're tired from exploring
and just want a fantastic meal without leaving the property,
this dinner buffet hits the spot.
9. Final Thoughts: Why It's the Perfect Honeymoon Hub

To sum it up, the Hyatt Regency Waikiki offers:
◾ Unbeatable access directly across from Waikiki Beach
◾ Spacious, comfortable Junior Suites
◾ Exceptional on-site dining and entertainment
◾ A prime location that makes itinerary planning a breeze
These factors combined make it an easy recommendation for any couple planning their honeymoon.
If you're currently comparing Hawaiian resorts
and looking for that sweet spot of location, luxury, and vibrant atmosphere,
this property deserves a spot on your shortlist.

The Verdict
Looking back at our extensive hotel research,
we realized that while ultra-luxury is nice,
comfort, walkability, and the quality of the time you spend together matter most.
By that metric,
the Hyatt Regency Waikiki delivered an absolutely stellar honeymoon experience,
and it was the perfect complement to Hawaii's flawless November weather.
Whether you're planning a honeymoon or just a romantic couples trip,
if you want to be right in the action of Waikiki,
you definitely need to consider adding this resort to your itinerary!
