Hotel Gibbs San Antonio is a charming boutique hotel housed in a remodeled 1909 building, which was actually San Antonio's very first high-rise office building.

While it has some history, Hotel Gibbs San Antonio still exudes a beautiful, antique luxury.

Parking

Paid Parking

If there's one downside to Hotel Gibbs, it has to be the parking.

There is a parking lot right next door, but it's paid parking and on the pricier side ($40 a day).

But wait, there's a public parking lot just a 5-minute walk away that is super cheap!

The public parking lot is a maximum of $10 per day, which is an incredible deal!

Even if you lose your parking ticket, it's only $18, making this parking lot a massive money-saver!

Since Hotel Gibbs is located right in the heart of downtown San Antonio, even the walk to the parking lot is absolutely gorgeous. Plus, almost everywhere is within walking distance, so I didn't find the parking situation to be a big deal at all!

Even the view from the public parking lot is stunning.

Lobby

24-Hour Reception, Free Coffee

The lobby features a 24-hour reception, delicious coffee, and refreshing orange-infused water.

The coffee was surprisingly tasty, so I made sure to grab a cup every single day!

Also, the security guards out front loved engaging in small talk, which was so sweet and welcoming! 🙉

When you check in, they even hand you two complimentary coupons for a wine tasting!

If you need to get some computer work done and don't have your laptop, they also have a handy business center.

Inside the Hotel Room

Surprisingly Spacious Room

The room I booked was a spacious 46m² (about 495 sq ft) room for 4 people!

At first, I was a bit startled to only see one king-size bed, but it actually included a sofa bed.

The extra bedding is stored in the closet. We wanted it to be a bit softer, so we asked the reception for an extra mattress pad to lay underneath.

To be honest, the sofa bed is a bit tight for two adults to sleep on.

However, it would probably be perfectly fine for two kids!

As for the view, we unfortunately got a view of a construction site. I bet the rooms on the other side have a much prettier view of the classic American-style buildings!

Just so you know, the hotel goes up to the 8th floor, so requesting a higher room during booking will probably get you a much better view!

I bet this building will look amazing once construction is fully finished!

One thing I personally loved was that every single outlet comes with USB and Type-C ports.

Since voltages vary by country, these little details are an absolute lifesaver if you forget your travel adapter.

There’s also a work desk perfect for setting up a laptop and a cozy little side sofa.

Right across from the bed, tucked under the TV, you'll find a mini-fridge and a coffee maker.

Vanity Area & Bathroom

An incredibly spacious vanity area

While the bedroom itself wasn't super spacious, the vanity and dressing area was incredibly roomy.

If there was one tiny disappointment, it’s that the only individual toiletry provided was body lotion.

So make sure to pack your own toothbrush and toothpaste!

This body lotion leaves a serious white cast, so you really have to rub it in!

The bathroom itself is also on the larger side.

Plus, they seem to have a water softener system because the water felt great and didn't leave that annoying slippery residue.

Inside the shower, there’s body wash, shampoo, and conditioner from the same brand.

Pro-tip: The room gets super dry, so I highly recommend hanging up a couple of damp towels before going to bed!

Breakfast & Wine Bar

Tex-Mex style breakfast and excellent wine tasting

You can enjoy breakfast right across from the 1st-floor lobby.

Even though breakfast is complimentary, Hotel Gibbs easily has some of the best breakfast quality among budget-friendly hotels in San Antonio!

It serves breakfast in the morning and transforms into a cozy wine bar in the evening.

They serve a Tex-Mex style spread, and the Carne Guisada (beef stew) was so incredibly delicious that I went back for seconds (and thirds!).

Of course, they also have continental classics like waffles and muffins.

If I had to find one downside, it's that the menu didn't change once during our three-day stay.

It's super tasty, but eating the exact same thing every morning got a little repetitive.

Instead, they offer fresh fruits that are perfect for breakfast, plus milk and protein yogurt stocked in the fridge.

We stopped by for the wine tasting on our last evening before checking out.

Even though it's complimentary, the service and the wine selection were surprisingly good.

Hotel Gibbs is definitely the real deal for value-packed hotels in San Antonio.

Gym & Sauna

A cardio-focused gym

The gym and sauna are located in the basement, and you'll need to tap your room keycard to enter.

Since the gym doesn't really have strength training machines, it's ideal for cardio lovers.

And the sauna is located right inside the gym.

It's a Finnish-style sauna, and I'm a little bummed I didn't get a chance to try it out due to timing.

Final Thoughts

100% would stay here again!

First of all, at around ~$96 per night for a family of four, it's easily one of the best value-for-money hotels in San Antonio,

And since it's located right in the heart of downtown, almost all key attractions are within walking distance, meaning you can fully enjoy San Antonio even without a car.
