Hong Kong Flights 2026: Booking Tips, Airline Comparison & Entry Guide
Planning a Hong Kong trip in 2026? Discover insider tips on booking flights, comparing airlines, and navigating immigration. Learn how to save money and maximize your travel time.

Round-trip flights to Hong Kong in the ~$222s, should I book now?
Low-cost airlines are cheap, but how much difference does adding a checked bag make?
How should I prepare for Hong Kong immigration?
Sweet Kong, who's traveled to Hong Kong over 10 times, is here to tell you!
I've personally flown with Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific,
Hong Kong Airlines & Hong Kong Express
I've used them all!

When planning your Hong Kong trip, you shouldn't just book based on
the first price you see for flights!
Depending on whether you check luggage and what time you arrive,
that 'cheap' flight might actually end up being more expensive.
Today, I'll give you a complete rundown, from comparing 5 airlines I've flown myself to
flight discount codes and preparing for Hong Kong immigration.

1. What's the Best Arrival Time at Hong Kong Airport?
📍 Hong Kong
Hong Kong
First things first, before you book your Hong Kong flight,
the absolute most important thing to check is your arrival time at Hong Kong Airport!
Having been to Hong Kong over 10 times,
I can confidently say this is the single most crucial factor.

If you want to make the most of your first day in Hong Kong,
rather than just saving a few tens of dollars on your flight,
prioritize arriving during the day so you can drop your luggage at the hotel and start exploring!
Especially with late-night arrivals, you need to factor in your accommodation's check-in time and
the cost of transportation from the airport.

While the Hong Kong Airport Express (AEL) runs until 00:48 AM,
the MTR (subway) typically stops a little after midnight.
If you end up taking an expensive Hong Kong taxi to your accommodation,
that 'cheap' night flight could actually cost you more!

To really make the most of your Hong Kong itinerary,
I recommend aiming to arrive at Hong Kong Airport
by 5 PM at the latest.
That way, you can kick off your first day with a Hong Kong night tour or
a delicious dinner at a local eatery!

If you arrive at the airport after 11 PM and
your accommodation isn't in Tsim Sha Tsui or Central (where the AEL stops),
it's smarter to take a Hong Kong airport bus that goes directly near your hotel,
keeping in mind that MTR transfers might have stopped!

2. What's a Reasonable Price for Hong Kong Flights?
Having traveled to Hong Kong over 10 times,
the prices I've booked in the past ranged from
the late ~$100s for the cheapest flights,
to the late ~$300s when they were more expensive.
And if they went higher than that, I simply gave up!

I tend to grab flights immediately if they're in the mid ~$100s,
and I'll still book if they're in the ~$220s, provided
the baggage allowance and flight times are good!
Even for the same round-trip journey, factors like baggage allowance and flight times can differ.
I usually start by comparing based on the criteria below:
Hong Kong Flight Ticket Price Guide
Around ~$148 | A price to watch if you're traveling light! First, confirm if carry-on and checked baggage are included. |
Around ~$222 | A good price to compare if baggage is included and the arrival time is convenient. |
Around ~$296 | Definitely on the pricier side. Try shifting your departure/return dates by a day and search for other flights too. |

3. Five Airlines I've Flown: Which Would I Choose Again?
Hong Kong Airlines Comparison
Cathay Pacific | Recommended if you love getting ice cream with your in-flight meal! They have a variety of departure times, which makes them the first airline I check when going to Hong Kong. |
Korean Air | For those who value Korean-speaking service and in-flight amenities. I pre-ordered a fruit meal and really enjoyed it! |
Asiana Airlines | For those who want friendly service and in-flight meals. On my flight, the meal and blanket were great. |
Hong Kong Express | Recommended for short trips with light luggage, especially if it's still cheap even after adding necessary baggage! The plane itself is very clean and no-frills, but the seat cushions are thin, and the backrests don't recline! In-flight meals and water are not provided, so you'll need to purchase them. |
Hong Kong Airlines (=Hong Kong Airline) | Compare when baggage-inclusive fares are low. No full meal, but snacks and water are provided! The airplane interior feels a bit dated in design and feel, and taller men might find the economy seats cramped. |
First off, for flights to Hong Kong that include in-flight meals,
you're looking at Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, and Cathay Pacific.

Among these, I personally liked Cathay Pacific the most.
That's because when I flew with them,
they even served Häagen-Dazs ice cream with the in-flight meal!
Even on a short flight, after enjoying a meal and watching a movie,
I really start to feel like I'm on vacation by the time we arrive!

Hong Kong Express is ideal if you have a light packing list
and if the round-trip price is around ~$185 or less,
I recommend booking quickly!
The main issue with Hong Kong Express is
that the price jumps significantly once you add baggage!
Especially with the "Ultra Light" fare,
only one small personal item is included.
If you plan on bringing a carry-on suitcase,
make sure to double-check if it's included in the fare you chose.

Also, on my flight, the seat cushions felt quite thin.
And the backrests don't recline!
If I were traveling with my parents,
I'd probably look at Cathay Pacific or a national carrier first.
If you plan on checking a suitcase,
compare the price of Express with added baggage
against Cathay Pacific for the same conditions!

If the round-trip price difference is only around ~$22-37,
I'd definitely choose Cathay Pacific,
which includes an in-flight meal and checked baggage.

4. Essential Tips for Hong Kong Immigration Preparation
At Hong Kong Airport, I've sometimes gone from immigration to baggage claim
in just 15 minutes,
and other times, when arriving at night, I've waited for over an hour!
That's why, if possible, I always choose daytime arrival flights,
and keep my schedule flexible right after landing.
Since specific times aren't always quiet,
it's smart to think of your landing time and the actual time you'll exit the airport
as two separate things!

If you're visiting for tourism with a standard Korean passport,
you can enjoy a visa-free stay for up to 90 days!
And great news, the paper Hong Kong arrival declaration form
no longer needs to be filled out!
To prepare for your Hong Kong entry, make sure to have these three things ready:
✅ A valid passport
✅ Your return flight or onward ticket reservation details
✅ The English name & address of your hotel, along with your accommodation reservation details
It's super handy to screenshot your hotel address on your phone,
so you can access it even without an internet connection!

Even with these preparations, during Hong Kong immigration,
you might still need a translator,
so it's definitely best to prepare a physical SIM or eSIM in advance!
Hong Kong is just one hour behind our time zone (Korea),
but ironically, that can make it easier to get confused with the time!
You'll need data for your phone to automatically update to the local time,
I once went to Hong Kong and forgot to connect my SIM card right away,
and misread the Hong Kong bus schedule,
which meant I waited for ages!
So, definitely prepare it beforehand and connect your data as soon as you step off the plane!
