If you have an extra day in your Hong Kong itinerary,
I highly recommend adding Macau to your trip.
The ferry ride from Hong Kong to Macau takes only about **1 hour**, so it's perfectly doable as a day trip.
When I traveled to Hong Kong and Macau together,
I had the chance to try both TurboJET and Cotai Water Jet.
I'll share details on the **Hong Kong-Macau ferry terminal locations, schedules, booking prices,**
**and even my review of the ferry ride from Macau back to Hong Kong!**
1. Terminal Locations
📍 Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal
168 Connaught Rd Central, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong
📌 When taking the ferry from Hong Kong to Macau,
you'll use the Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan.
It's directly connected to Sheung Wan MTR Station.

Largo do Terminal Maritimo, Macau
📍 Macau Taipa Ferry Terminal
Estr. de Pac On, Macau
📌 When taking the ferry from Macau to Hong Kong,
· Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal
· Taipa Ferry Terminal
You can choose either of these.
If you're doing a day trip and focusing on Macau's historic old town,
like Senado Square and the Ruins of St. Paul's,
the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal is more convenient for your route.
However, if you're staying at a hotel on the Cotai Strip,
or visiting places like The Venetian or The Parisian Macao,
then the Taipa Ferry Terminal will be easier to access.
📌 Routes
**TurboJET** currently operates routes between Sheung Wan and both
Macau's Outer Harbour and Taipa terminals.
**Cotai Water Jet** connects Sheung Wan with the Taipa terminal.
I also initially struggled with deciding which ferry to take,
but it turned out the simplest way was to decide where in Macau I wanted to go first,
and then choose the terminal accordingly.
2. Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Schedules
Both TurboJET and Cotai Water Jet operate multiple Hong Kong-Macau ferries daily.
(Departures every 30 minutes to 1 hour)

❗ From my experience taking both, **I didn't notice any significant difference in seating or ride comfort**, so it's best to book with the operator that offers your **preferred terminal and time slot**.
Tip: Unless there's a severe typhoon with strong winds, ferries usually operate even in rainy weather.

4. My Macau to Hong Kong Ferry Experience
I arrived in Macau via Macau Airport,
and after finishing my Macau trip, when I moved to Hong Kong,
I took the ferry.
I arrived at the Taipa Ferry Terminal by taxi.
(It's a 13-minute walk from Macau Airport to Taipa Terminal,
and about a 10-minute drive from hotels to the ferry terminal.)
If you show your booking voucher at the ticket counter,
they'll exchange it for a physical ticket.
❗ I recommend arriving 30 minutes before your departure time.
(You'll need to go through immigration and customs.)
If you arrive earlier, they might even exchange your ticket
for an earlier departure.
After exchanging your ticket, head down one floor to find your departure gate.
Just look for the gate that matches your departure time.
It's clearly displayed on the electronic boards, so you'll find it easily!
(Basically, just follow the crowd!)
Head to Departure Gate 1 and show your ticket at the seat assignment counter.
They'll then assign seat numbers and stick them on your ticket,
ensuring you can sit together with your travel companions.
CotaiJet allows one piece of luggage under 20kg,
and TurboJET also allows one piece of luggage.
Tip: Once you board the ferry, just show your seat ticket and they'll guide you to the luggage storage area nearby.
They say luggage should be under 20kg per person, but
they've never actually weighed my suitcase before... (shhh!)
Inside, the ferry had a standard seating arrangement,
and for the approximately one-hour journey,
the regular economy seats were perfectly comfortable.
The seats were plush leather
and there was a small table in front of each seat,
making it ideal for checking your phone or simply relaxing during the trip.
Seasickness Tip: I actually get quite motion sick,
so I always take one motion sickness pill before boarding.
But even on a day with choppy waves, I was actually fine!
It felt less like seasickness and more like riding a rollercoaster, in a fun way.
Still, experiences can vary from person to person,
so if you're sensitive to motion, I recommend bringing motion sickness medication with you!
📌 Review Summary
First, choose between the Outer Harbour or Taipa Terminal –
whichever is closer to the tourist attractions you plan to visit.
Then, select either TurboJET or CotaiJET based on the timetable that best suits your plans!
Having used it myself, I found the process from booking to boarding incredibly simple,
which is why I comfortably use it every time I travel.
Once your travel dates are set, be sure to compare prices,
especially while there are still good time slots available.
