Hong Kong Macau Ferry Guide 2026: Terminals, Timetables, & Tips
Day trip to Macau from Hong Kong? Our 2026 guide covers everything you need to know about ferry terminals, operators, and getting there seamlessly.

If you have an extra day in your Hong Kong itinerary,
I highly recommend making a combined trip to Macau as well.
It's only about an hour by ferry from Hong Kong to Macau,
so you can absolutely do it as a day trip.
When I explored both Hong Kong and Macau on the same trip,
I had the chance to try out both TurboJET and Cotai Water Jet.
I'll cover everything from the Hong Kong Macau ferry terminal locations, timetables, and booking prices
to my experience taking the ferry from Macau back to Hong Kong!
1. Terminal Locations

📍 Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal
168 Connaught Rd Central, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong
📌 When taking the ferry from Hong Kong to Macau
you'll use the Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal located in Sheung Wan.
It's conveniently connected directly to Sheung Wan MTR Station.
📍 Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal
Largo do Terminal Maritimo, Macau
📍 Macau Taipa Ferry Terminal
Estr. de Pac On, Macau
📌 When taking the ferry from Macau to Hong Kong
· Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal
· Taipa Ferry Terminal
You can choose either of these, depending on your plans.
If you're planning a day trip focused on Macau's historic old town,
visiting sights like Senado Square and the Ruins of St. Paul's,
the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal will be most convenient for your route.
However, if you're staying at a hotel on the Cotai Strip
or at the Venetian or Parisian Macao,
using the Taipa Ferry Terminal will be much more convenient.

📌 Operating Routes
**TurboJET** currently operates routes between Sheung Wan and
Macau's Outer Harbour and Taipa terminals,
while **Cotai Water Jet** connects Sheung Wan with Taipa.
I, too, initially wondered which ferry to take,
but I quickly realized the simplest approach was to first decide where I wanted to go in Macau
and then choose my terminal accordingly.
2. Hong Kong Macau Ferry Timetable
The Hong Kong Macau ferries,
both TurboJET and Cotai Water Jet, run numerous times a day.
(with departures roughly every 30 minutes to 1 hour)
📌 [TurboJET] Sheung Wan → Outer Harbour, Taipa Terminals

📌 [Cotai Water Jet] Sheung Wan → Taipa Terminal

❗ From my own experience riding both,
I didn't feel a significant difference in seating or ride comfort,
so it was best to book the one that offered my preferred terminal and time slot.
Tip: Unless it's a severe typhoon with strong winds,
ferries usually operate as normal even in the rain.
3. Ferry Booking Prices

The price for a Hong Kong Macau ferry ticket
varies depending on whether you choose TurboJET or Cotai Water Jet.
📌 TurboJET

Currently, Klook offers the cheapest TurboJET tickets,
with economy seats even boasting a 42% discount.
(Since it's only a 1-hour journey, economy class is perfectly comfortable.)
📌 Cotai Water Jet

CotaiJET is currently cheapest on Klook too!
There's a promotion where if you book for two people, it's ~$21 per person,

Personally, if you find TurboJET and CotaiJET confusing,
I recommend just taking CotaiJET..👍🏻

4. My Macau to Hong Kong Ferry Experience

I entered Macau through Macau Airport,
and after finishing my Macau trip, when I moved to Hong Kong,
I used the ferry.
I took a taxi and arrived at the Taipa Ferry Terminal.
(It's a 13-minute walk from Macau Airport to Taipa Terminal, and about a 10-minute drive from hotels to the ferry terminal.)

If you show your reservation voucher at the ticket counter,
they'll exchange it for a physical ticket.
❗ I recommend arriving 30 minutes before your departure time.
(You need to go through immigration.)
If you arrive earlier, they'll often exchange your ticket for an earlier departure.

After exchanging your ticket, head down one floor and find the departure gate that matches your departure time.
It's clearly marked on the electronic display, so you won't have trouble finding it!
(It's basically just following the crowd.)

Head to Departure Gate 1 and show your ticket at the seat assignment counter.
They'll then attach seat numbers to your ticket so you can sit together with your companions.

CotaiJet allows one piece of luggage under 20kg,
and TurboJET also permits one piece of luggage.
Tip: Once you board the ferry, show your seat ticket,
and they'll guide you to the luggage storage area nearby.
While they say luggage should be under 20kg per person,
I've actually never had my suitcase weighed before... (just between us!)

Inside the ferry, seats were arranged in rows, and for the
approximately one-hour journey,
a standard economy seat was perfectly fine.
The seats were plush leather and had a small table in front,
making it comfortable to check your phone or relax during the ride.
Seasickness Tip: I tend to get quite seasick myself, so
I always take a motion sickness pill before boarding.
Even on days with rough waves, I was actually fine...
It felt less like seasickness and more like riding a roller coaster.
Still, it can vary from person to person,
so if you're sensitive, I recommend bringing motion sickness medication with you!
📌 Review Summary
First, choose the terminal closest to your attractions
(Outer Harbour or Taipa Terminal),
then pick between TurboJET and CotaiJet based on the timetable!
From booking to boarding, I found the process simple and convenient,
which is why I comfortably use it every time I travel.
Once your travel dates are set, while there are still available slots,
I recommend comparing prices first.
