Why I Loved It So Much, I Had to Go Back!
When choosing accommodation in Hawaii, it's always a tough choice, isn't it?
Do you go for a spot right on Waikiki Beach,
Or do you opt for convenience and a great location,
even if it's a little further out?
I found myself debating this every time,
and after choosing it last May, I made the same decision again this December.
I debated between a Waikiki stay and this place until the very last minute,
but ultimately, this won out again.
Choosing where to stay in Hawaii – it's a dilemma we all face, right?
If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of Waikiki
and are looking for the newest and most pleasant hotel in the Ala Moana area of Hawaii,
I wholeheartedly recommend the Renaissance Honolulu Hotel.
Honestly, rebooking a hotel you've already stayed at isn't something I do lightly,
but this place gave me clear reasons to choose it
not just once, but twice.
It truly offers the perfect trifecta: amazing shopping, delicious food, and impeccable room conditions.

Following my stay in May, I found myself back in Hawaii again this December.
And once again, my choice was none other than
the Renaissance Honolulu Hotel.
The Renaissance Honolulu
is located in the Ala Moana area, not Waikiki.
This means you can enjoy a much more relaxed atmosphere,
away from the crowds and noise.
Many people ask, 'Why Ala Moana instead of Waikiki?'
But trust me, once you experience the convenience, you won't want to leave.

along with popular eateries like Okdongshik and Iyasume Musubi, all clustered together.
So, if anyone asks me for a Hawaii hotel location recommendation,
I'll always say Ala Moana and the Renaissance Honolulu Hotel.

and information about the newly revamped SERA Restaurant, visited by the Wooga Squad (Park Seo-joon, BTS V, Choi Woo-shik, and more).
I've packed in all the details, so be sure to read to the end!
Unbeatable Location and Surrounding Infrastructure (Shopping & Dining)
When it comes to recommending a hotel location in Hawaii,
The reason I picked the Ala Moana area is simple.
Ala Moana Center, a shopping paradise, is just a 5-minute walk away.
Target and Walmart are practically on your doorstep, perfect for souvenirs
and even grabbing some simple snacks!
Inside the hotel building, you'll find Ok-dong-sik from 'Black & White Chef Season 2',
which is perfect when you're craving a taste of Korea.
Plus, there's my favorite budget-friendly steak restaurant nearby,
as well as Iyasume Musubi, and even Patagonia,
all within walking distance!
Foodland, a fantastic poke spot, is also close by,
meaning you can enjoy fresh poke every single day – what a treat!
Getting to Waikiki is much easier than you'd think.
It's a bit far to walk all the way to Waikiki Beach.
But I wouldn't even consider that a drawback,
because there are so many great alternatives.
Many of you might be curious about accommodation in Hawaii, and here's a tip:
The Renaissance Honolulu offers a fantastic solution.
As of December 2025,
the hotel reliably operates a free shuttle bus to Waikiki.
It's understandable that some might be concerned about the Ala Moana accommodation's distance from Waikiki,
but this shuttle completely eliminates that worry!
Shuttle Bus Operating Hours: 10 AM ~ 8 PM (every 2 hours)
Route: Hotel → Ala Moana Center → Magic Island → Waikiki ʻAlohilani Resort
Beyond the shuttle, if you have a JCB card, you can ride the Pink Trolley,
making it incredibly convenient to get to Waikiki.
There's really no need to insist on an expensive hotel in the heart of Waikiki.

City View Room Review: A Different Kind of Charm from Ocean View
The Renaissance Honolulu Hotel is a brand-new hotel that opened in 2024.
It's the first newly built hotel in Hawaii in a whopping 25 years,
so the room condition is, well, what more can I say? It's simply amazing!
Last time I stayed in an ocean view room, but this time I opted for a city view.
The conclusion? The city view was also incredibly satisfying!
Not only do you get stunning Honolulu nightscapes,
but you can even catch a glimpse of the ocean from the side, which provides a wonderful sense of openness.
The sunrise in the morning, especially, was a true work of art,
I found myself just gazing at it, lost in the moment.
The bedding was incredibly comfortable, guaranteeing a perfect night's sleep.
There were plenty of USB charging ports,
and even a steam iron, which I found incredibly useful throughout my trip.
Considering the price for accommodation in Hawaii, the room condition here
I honestly felt was among the absolute best on the island.
Bathroom amenities are also well-stocked,
and shower robes, slippers, and more are all provided.
The hairdryer was easy and convenient to use, too! :)
You just need to remember to pack your toothbrush and toothpaste!
Bottled water, a coffee machine, and a coffee pot are all provided,
but if you need more, you can also use the water purifiers on each floor.
They even have ice makers, so I got to enjoy iced Americanos!
So, which room type is best?

I truly felt that opting for a city view was a very smart choice.
The price difference between ocean view and city view
varies by date,
so it's definitely a good idea to compare them before booking.

Amenities and Breakfast at SERA Restaurant
You absolutely must visit SERA restaurant, located on the first floor.
This place is also famous for being visited by celebrities from the Wooga Squad,
including BTS's V, Choi Woo-shik, and Park Seo-joon.
This time, I tried their breakfast buffet.
While it offered more variety than the à la carte menu I had last time,
that was a definite plus,
the fact that the menu was pretty much the same throughout my stay
was a little disappointing.
Renaissance Honolulu's breakfast, as well as lunch,
and dinner are all excellent quality!
There's also a Paris Baguette right next door,
making it perfect for grabbing a quick pastry and coffee.
Additionally, this accommodation has a swimming pool, jacuzzi, and spa on the 8th floor.
I also tried out the spa this time,
and healing in the warm water
was, as expected, simply the best.
There's also a gym with a wide variety of exercise equipment, along with dedicated yoga and stretching areas,
and a paid coin laundry room.
I think this is an especially great setup for long-term travelers.
And the incredibly friendly service from the Korean staff?
That's definitely an undeniable highlight of our Renaissance Ala Moana experience.
It's also one of the biggest reasons why I chose this hotel again.
The staff were truly friendly,
and having Korean staff meant
communication was super easy, and we received so much help!
Especially if you're new to traveling,
these kinds of things really impact how satisfied you are with your accommodation.
Even more so in places where you don't speak the language!
The concierge also provided lots of helpful information
for our Hawaii trip.
Definitely stop by and ask!
Through this second visit, the Renaissance Honolulu
was once again a truly satisfying accommodation in Hawaii.
