Harbin's peak summer temperature hovers around 28°C.
That's a **difference of about 7 degrees Celsius**, and the

1. Average Temperatures

**Harbin, China** is a relatively close destination, just a **2-hour and 30-minute flight**
from Incheon.
However, its latitude is further north than South Korea,
lying **900km further north**, and it borders Russia. This means
**temperatures are consistently lower than in South Korea.**
In winter, the snow doesn't even melt during the day,
which is why the city streets are filled with elaborate snow and ice sculptures.
It's renowned for its incredibly cold weather.

While you certainly won't feel chilly in summer,
**it's significantly cooler than a South Korean summer!**
Let's compare the **Harbin weather in July and August** – prime summer vacation months –
with Seoul's, as shown below.
City | Temperature | July | August |
Seoul | Avg. Temperature | 25.3 | 26.1 |
High Temperature | 29.0 | 30.0
Feels Like Temperature | 32~36 | 33~37
Harbin | Avg. Temperature | 23.7 | 21.9 |
High Temperature | 28.2 | 26.7
Feels Like Temperature | 26~31 | 24~29 |
While the raw temperature figures may not show a drastic difference,
the **"feels like" temperature is up to 6 degrees cooler in July,**
and up to **9 degrees cooler in August**!
Harbin in mid-summer feels as cool as June in South Korea.

2. Places to Visit

**Central Avenue (Zhongyang Street)**
Harbin is located at the northernmost tip of China,
sharing a border with Russia.
This means you'll find **European and Russian-style architecture** scattered throughout the city.
Central Avenue, in particular, boasts numerous Russian-style buildings,
giving you the sensation of strolling through a charming European street.

Near Central Avenue, you'll find Russian souvenir shops,
as well as stores like Miniso in large shopping malls.
It's a great spot for browsing for souvenirs and unique finds.

**St. Sophia Cathedral**
This is the **iconic landmark of Harbin, China**,
This is a Byzantine-style cathedral.
You can go inside during the day,
and at night, it lights up beautifully, creating a stunning night view.
These days, when you go to Shanghai, many people try out 'Wanghong experiences' (influencer experiences),
and around St. Sophia Cathedral in Harbin, China,
you can dress up in Russian aristocratic style clothing and makeup
and have a photoshoot experience.

Ahn Jung-geun Memorial Hall
In 1909, during the Japanese colonial period, Ahn Jung-geun
assassinated Ito Hirobumi right here at Harbin Station.
The Ahn Jung-geun Memorial Hall, a must-visit for Koreans,
is located on one side of Harbin Station.
From the Ahn Jung-geun Memorial Hall, through the glass window,
you could see the exact spot where the historic act took place.
It might have been removed now,
but when I visited, there was an opaque film on the glass.

I traveled to Harbin aiming for the Ice Lantern Festival and the Ahn Jung-geun Memorial Hall in winter,
but
if you go in summer, Sun Island, located near where the Ice and Snow World opens,
is filled with lush greenery and has a lake,
making it a popular summer resort for locals.
3. Accommodation Location

I recommend staying somewhere close to Central Street (Zhongyang Street).
Although most people get around by taxi,
Central Street has many great restaurants,
and even though it's in the city center, accommodation isn't too expensive.
