No matter which Japanese city you're visiting, you'll almost always find a GU store conveniently located near a major train station.
During my recent Tokyo trip, I visited the Kinshicho branch!
Store hours vary slightly by location, so I highly recommend checking Google Maps before you go.
2. Must-Buy Shopping List

Here are the top 3 items you absolutely need to buy when visiting GU in Japan.
Honestly, I only packed three outfits for a week-long trip because I planned to buy and wear clothes directly from GU! Their designs are trendy, and the comfort level is off the charts.

First on my list is their built-in bra camisoles!
We all know the struggle of finding a breezy, lightweight camisole that actually fits well, provides good coverage, and hides that annoying underarm bulge.
But after trying on the ones at GU, I was sold.
The built-in cups look completely natural,
the coverage is flawless, and the fabric is so cooling!
I immediately grabbed two of them!!

In the sweltering summer heat, being able to wear just one cooling layer instead of a separate bra and tank top is a total game-changer.
They come in tons of cute designs, so definitely toss a few in your basket!

My second recommendation is this layered slip dress.
Throwing this over a simple white tee and jeans instantly elevates your outfit into an effortless, chic look.
I wore it non-stop throughout my trip and felt so put together.

I wore this combo to both Ine Funaya and Tokyo Disneyland, and it matched the vibe perfectly while keeping me comfortable all day!
*Fun fact: The t-shirt and layered cami are both from GU too!!!
Amazing quality!

My third must-buy item is their pajama sets!
You get the exact same quality as high-end loungewear brands but for about a third of the price.
They make fantastic souvenirs or gifts, and I buy a new seasonal set every time I visit.
The incredibly soft fabric really helps you get a good night's sleep. The material is so luxurious that my friends always ask me to bring them back a set too!
3. How to Use the Fitting Rooms

One of the biggest reasons you can't go wrong at GU is their incredible fitting room policy.
You can try on essentially anything to make sure the fit is perfect before buying.
You can grab whatever catches your eye and take it to the fitting room.
The best part? You can even try on the intimates and camisoles!
At many other stores, you have to guess your size for certain items,
but at GU, being able to try everything on guarantees you'll walk out with clothes that fit you beautifully!
4. Tax-Free & Discount Tips

To get tax-free shopping at GU,
do not forget to bring your physical passport!!
You cannot claim the tax exemption without it.
My original total was
around 14,652 JPY. But by combining the 10% tax-free deduction with a mobile payment discount coupon,
I saved over ~$20!

Here's how to get extra discount coupons:
1. Open your mobile payment app (many tourist apps and e-wallets run promotions).
2. Search for 'GU' to download the exclusive coupon.
3. Show the QR code to the cashier when paying.
It's a quick and simple way to apply massive discounts right at the register!
