This time, our family trip destination was Fukuoka!

It's perfect for a quick getaway by just taking one day of annual leave and combining it with the weekend. Plus, the flight time is short,

making it a comfortable trip even with my parents.

For this itinerary, I included an overnight stay in Yufuin.

Since we were traveling with my parents and luggage,

I opted for a direct bus from the airport to Yufuin.

I'll share everything from how I booked the bus,

the price, seat selection, and even tips for using the Sankyu Pass!

From Fukuoka to Yufuin,

Why Choose the Bus?

There are several ways to get from Fukuoka to Yufuin.

Since this was a trip with my parents, I compared the cost + number of transfers + travel route

before choosing the highway bus.

How to Book the Highway Bus

The website supports English, so the booking process isn't difficult even if you don't know Japanese.

I'll walk you through the booking process step-by-step, just as I did!

① Search for 'Highway Bus' and set language to English

② Search for the Fukuoka Airport → Yufuin Route

✔️Area: Fukuoka Prefecture (Fukuoka, Kitakyushu, etc.)

✔️Route: Fukuoka･Fukuoka Airport･Yufuin (Yufuin-go)

✔️Boarding Bus Stop: Fukuoka Airport International Terminal

✔️Arrival Bus Stop: Yufuin Station Bus Center

✔️Boarding Date

✔️Number of Travelers

③ Select your desired time slot and fare

From the search results, check the operating times and available seats, then select your preferred bus.

✔️Standard Fare (WEB): Regular ticket without Sankyu Pass

✔️Standard (One-way booking, Sankyu Pass, Coupon Ticket): For Sankyu Pass users

④ Select Seats and Number of Travelers

After selecting your bus, you can reconfirm the route and then choose your seats.

It's possible to book both one-way and round-trip tickets together, or just a one-way ticket.

When selecting seats, there's one thing to keep in mind.

You need to select the number of male and female passengers separately, then assign genders to the seats corresponding to your booking.

💡Tip: For the best views, choose seats on the left side when heading to Yufuin, and on the right side when returning to Fukuoka.

⑤ Book as a Guest (No Registration Required)

You can choose to book as a guest without needing to register.

Seat Selection, SunQ Pass, and Payment Details

Book your preferred seats in advance!

When I made my reservation, seats became available for selection about a month before the boarding date.

I was able to select my seats.

If your travel itinerary is confirmed, I highly recommend booking early!

Heads Up! Even with a SunQ Pass, Bus Reservations Are Separate

If you're planning to use a SunQ Pass, this is an important detail to keep in mind.

Just because you've purchased a SunQ Pass doesn't mean your preferred bus seats

are automatically reserved for you.

So, you'll need to make separate reservations for your desired bus times and seats.

Will I get a discount for booking a round trip?

Although I booked a round trip for my actual reservation,

all segments were charged as individual one-way fares.

Pay Directly by Credit Card

After you complete your reservation,

payment methods such as online credit card, convenience store payment, or pay later will be displayed.

On the credit card payment screen, you'll enter:

Credit Card Number / Cardholder Name / Expiration Date / Security Code

Ticket Type / and your email address for payment notifications.

Check Your Email After Booking!

Once payment is complete, a confirmation screen will appear,

and your reservation details will also be sent to the email address you provided.

After your reservation is complete,

you can also instantly check your reservation details, make changes, or cancel if needed.

If you're planning a trip to Fukuoka + Yufuin with your parents, consider these points:

✔️ A nearby destination perfect for a short getaway, even using just one day of leave!

✔️ On Day 1, minimize travel by heading straight from the airport to Yufuin.

✔️ Consider not just the price, but also the number of transfers, your luggage, and potential fatigue!

✔️ When returning, choose your arrival point based on your next itinerary.

Overall Thoughts

Since this was a trip with my parents,

I prioritized minimizing transfers and maximizing convenience over price this time.

The ability to go directly from Fukuoka Airport to Yufuin was a huge plus,

and the express bus perfectly suited our itinerary.

If you're planning to head straight to Yufuin right after landing at the airport,

I recommend comparing it with train options too!
