Worried about sold-out tickets?
Here is your foolproof guide to booking the Fukuoka to Yufuin bus!
In the past, whenever I visited Fukuoka, I always relied on guided bus tours to get to Yufuin.
But for my 2026 trip, I decided to take the plunge and book the highway bus tickets myself!
Because this hot spring town is such a popular day trip destination, tickets frequently sell out if you wait too long.
I initially thought the booking process would be complicated, but it turned out to be incredibly simple!
Below, I'll walk you through exactly how to secure your seats quickly and easily.

>> Official Yufuin Bus Booking Site <<
Reserving your Yufuin bus ticket is a breeze.
If you use Google Chrome, the website automatically translates to English, making the entire process seamless.
As shown in my screenshot above,
Select Fukuoka Prefecture for the region,
Fukuoka Airport ~ Yufuin Line for the route,
and Tenjin Expressway Bus Terminal for your boarding stop.
If you are staying closer to Hakata Station rather than Tenjin,
simply select the Hakata Bus Terminal instead!

Once you have your booking voucher, simply exchange it for a physical ticket at the ticket counter.
Then, just wait for your scheduled departure time.
When it is time to board, the friendly drivers will guide you, so there is absolutely nothing to stress about!
Departure Point | Travel Time |
Tenjin Bus Terminal | 2 hours 30 mins |
Fukuoka Airport Terminal | Approx. 1 hr 50 mins - 2 hrs |
Hakata Bus Terminal | Approx. 2 hrs 10 mins |
Use the timetable above to plan your itinerary depending on where you choose to board.

The bus interior was surprisingly comfortable! The seats had plenty of legroom,
and each seat came equipped with a USB charging port,
so I could keep my phone juiced up during the ride.
There is also a restroom at the back of the bus, which is a huge relief if you are traveling with kids or just need to go during the two-hour ride.
I booked my tickets two weeks in advance.
Seeing how packed the bus was, I am certain they would have been completely sold out if I had waited any longer.
(Pro Tip: Book early if you want to secure your spot!)
Kappa Restaurant, Musouen Onsen, Lake Kinrin, Yufuin Floral Village

We did not hit any major traffic, so we arrived right on schedule.
Sticking to our itinerary, my sister and I grabbed a taxi and headed straight to the famous Musouen Onsen.

Musouen offers both private family baths and public baths.
It is incredibly popular for its stunning traditional outdoor hot springs (rotenburo).
We lucked out and grabbed an empty private family bath.
We spent about an hour soaking in the steaming water before enjoying a refreshing shower.
This was my first authentic Japanese onsen experience!
The mineral-rich water left my skin glowing, and having the peaceful outdoor setting all to ourselves was the ultimate healing experience.
If you are looking for the best things to do here, an onsen visit is an absolute must!

Afterward, we took our time exploring the rest of town.
We grabbed lunch at the famous Kappa Restaurant, wandered through the whimsical Yufuin Floral Village, and strolled around the scenic Lake Kinrin.
If we had booked a standard bus tour, we would have been rushing to meet a tight schedule.
Booking our own tickets gave us the freedom to truly relax and explore at our own pace!

To guarantee your trip without any hiccups:

Do not worry about the language barrier—Google Chrome's auto-translate feature makes the Japanese website super easy to navigate!
It is far less intimidating than it seems.
Take the leap, book your tickets, and enjoy a perfectly paced day exploring all the magical spots Yufuin has to offer!
It takes 2 hours and 30 minutes when departing from Tenjin Bus Terminal, and about 2 hours and 10 minutes from Hakata Bus Terminal. If boarding at Fukuoka Airport Terminal, it takes approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes to 2 hours.
There are USB charging ports next to the seats, so you can charge your mobile phone during the trip. Additionally, there is a restroom inside the bus for your convenience while traveling.
Since it is highly popular and can sell out quickly, it is recommended to book in advance through the reservation website at least two weeks prior. You can use the translation feature in the Chrome browser to make the reservation, and then exchange the issued voucher for a physical ticket at the ticket office before boarding.
