During my trip to Melbourne, I stumbled upon this incredible Mexican restaurant after a vibrant Saturday exploring the Fitzroy Flea Market. Frankie's Tortas and Tacos kept popping up as a must-try, and considering Melbourne's reputation for diverse, fusion cuisine, I knew I had to check it out.
Let me cut to the chase: these are, without a doubt, the best tacos I've ever had. Seriously, my life changed! I'm already craving them again.

Getting there is super easy. Just hop on a direct tram from Melbourne City to Fitzroy. Once you alight, it's less than a 5-minute walk. This area is a real foodie paradise; there's even a really famous Melbourne Fitzroy bagel shop right next door!

I'd read reviews about it getting crowded, so I made sure to arrive close to opening time for lunch. It was surprisingly quiet during the day, which made for a relaxed experience. I imagine this place really buzzes in the evenings!
They have both high-top and standard tables, and we were told to pick any spot we liked, so we settled here.

I initially thought about ordering both AL Pastor and Pork, but they confirmed they were essentially the same, so I opted for the Chicken instead.
My sibling went for a classic Corona beer, while I chose a refreshing lemonade. It came in a can and was surprisingly good!
The tacos arrived surprisingly fast! They also provide fresh lime wedges, which I recommend trying both with and without – it adds a delightful zest that transforms the flavor.

Oh, my goodness, these were phenomenal! The distinct, aromatic spices of Mexican cuisine were perfectly balanced – not overpowering at all. My first bite literally took me by surprise with how delicious it was.

It's clear why this place is so highly rated! I was just looking for a quick bite in Fitzroy, and stumbling upon Frankie's was an absolute success. You seriously have to check it out!
