Today, I'll be introducing Fox Autorent, a car rental company located at Vienna Airport, Austria.

​When planning my European adventure, after flights and accommodation,

car rental was the next big thing on my mind!

For my 3-country journey through Austria, Hungary, and Slovenia,

I rented a car for 9 nights and 10 days, excluding my time in Vienna city itself.

Fox Autorent was the most affordable option, even including border crossing fees within Europe and insurance.

How to Get to Fox Autorent

Fox Autorent is a smaller car rental company located outside Vienna Airport.

Upon arriving at the airport, you just give them a call and they come for an immediate pickup,

instead of a fixed shuttle schedule, they actually come to pick you up at the airport

once you've collected your luggage and called them.

The car rental office is conveniently located about 10 minutes from the airport,

and on the day of return, they drop you off right back at the airport,

so despite being outside the airport, it was incredibly convenient with no major hassles!

1. How to Book Vienna Car Rental at the Best Price

In the past, I used to check schedules and book through global car rental sites like Hertz or Alamo.

However, when I tried to rent for a long period, the prices were just too steep.

While living in LA for a month previously, I used Klook Car Rental,

and found many great value-for-money local companies without any issues,

so I opted for Klook again this time.

After entering your pickup and drop-off locations and dates, you can search and

discover vehicles from various car rental companies, not just the global chains.

However, when booking a car rental for a European trip,

it's essential to meticulously compare all the details.

In particular, if you're traveling across multiple countries,

additional fees for crossing borders will apply.

There might also be separate charges for adding extra drivers.

So, after considering an additional driver and various other factors,

for travel to Austria, Hungary, and Slovenia,

we chose the most affordable option, based on movement between these three countries:

Fox Auto Rent.

Considering two suitcases and backpacks,

we opted for a compact-to-midsize vehicle, a bit larger than a subcompact.

Since many cars in Europe have manual transmissions,

it's essential to choose an automatic transmission.

You can select insurance with Klook Protect,

and even the most affordable basic option is available.

When booking, after selecting multi-country travel

and choosing the countries included in our trip,

we could see the additional fees.

Selecting Hungary and Slovenia cost 60 Euros.

Another great thing was that adding my spouse as a driver was free,

so both my husband and I could be registered without extra cost.

The deposit is 1,000 Euros, payable at the office when picking up the car.

You'll need a credit card in the name of the reservation holder,

so make sure to bring it with you.

(Travel wallets, Apple Pay, etc., are not accepted)

2. How to Pick Up Your Car from Fox Auto Rent at Vienna Airport

At first, I didn't properly check the booking confirmation,

and went to the connected car rental offices at the airport.

Only global brand offices were there,

and Fox Auto Rent wasn't among them.

When I checked the booking confirmation email,

it stated that a pickup request was required upon arrival at the airport,

and a phone number was listed.

It mentioned 'Terminal 3 Departures, Spot 333',

and wondering what that meant, I headed to Terminal 3's departure level.

Once there, I saw numbers written on the parking spots.

Until then, I thought there would be a van or shuttle bus,

and that this spot was like a bus stop.

A short while later, an SUV pulled up and stopped,

and it was the rental office staff member coming to pick us up.

They privately picked up just my husband and me,

and drove us to their office near the airport.

The office was located in a residential area near the airport,

so the surroundings were very quiet.

There was ample parking space in front of the small office,

with various car models ready.

Once inside the office, we completed booking confirmation,

driver registration using our international and Korean driver's licenses,

and the deposit payment with a credit card.

When I booked through Klook, I opted for basic insurance.

At the counter, they asked if I wanted to upgrade the insurance,

but I decided to stick with the basic plan.

The costs for traveling between Hungary and Slovenia were

exactly as confirmed on Klook.

They also offered additional items I could've added,

but I chose to pick up the car **without any extras.**

Most roads in Europe are toll roads,

meaning you'll need to purchase a vignette for each country.

What's more, some roads incur extra charges even if you have a vignette,

and this was clearly explained at the rental office.

However, being my first time navigating these roads, it was impossible to completely avoid them

based solely on the explanation. So, I did end up using an additional toll road once.

I had booked a compact car, but to my delight, I received a free upgrade,

so I was able to pick up an SUV!

The trunk and interior were incredibly spacious,

making our journey super comfortable.

3. My Review of Fox Auto Rent's Vehicle

First off, what truly impressed me was how spotlessly clean the car was,

and it had very low mileage.

Given the European highways, the cruise control feature was an absolute lifesaver!

Plus, it came with a host of other features like lane detection and speed alerts,

which made driving so convenient.

With CarPlay integration, navigating with Google Maps after connecting via Bluetooth was incredibly easy.

I even brought a USB adapter, only to discover it had convenient USB-C ports!

There was even a wireless charging pad,

so one of us could use the port while the other charged wirelessly –

super convenient for two travelers!

After landing in Vienna, we explored the city center using public transport.

Then, we headed back to the airport to pick up our rental car and drove straight to Hungary.

Our return flight also departed from Vienna, and the main reason was that we could get on the highway directly from the airport,

rather than navigating Vienna's city center after renting.

Ultimately, the car was incredibly clean and comfortable.

Although I was a bit apprehensive about booking with a smaller company that didn't have many reviews,

I was delighted by its excellent value for money and the friendly staff.

The deposit was fully refunded within a day or two after returning the car,

with no hidden extra charges whatsoever.
