Luwangzhai is conveniently located right in the heart of Dalian city. You can't miss its bright yellow sign!

It's clearly a popular spot for sea urchin dumplings, as I saw a steady stream of customers heading in while I was snapping photos outside.

02. Restaurant Interior

The restaurant itself is quite cozy, with a good number of tables spread out. Even though it was busy, we were able to grab a seat right away, thanks to some extra seating tucked away in the back!

They even have tables along the wall perfect for solo diners, making it a great spot if you're exploring Dalian on your own.

The walls were adorned with large photos of Dalian's signature sea urchin dumplings, along with other tempting dumpling options. The pictures made it super easy to pick out what we wanted to order.

Of course, we had to get Luwangzhai's famous sea urchin dumplings, plus a few other varieties!

They also had a fridge stocked with cold drinks. It was a warm day, so we grabbed a refreshing Tsingtao beer to go with our meal.

Each table was set with chopsticks, soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil. If you needed spoons or extra bowls, it was a self-service setup, which was perfectly fine. Everything was neatly organized, making for a smooth and enjoyable dining experience.

03. Our Order

We ordered the Crab Roe Dumplings, Shrimp Dumplings, and of course, the Sea Urchin Dumplings.

We opted for small portions of each, which meant we got 4 of each type, totaling 12 dumplings. It was a late breakfast for us, so we didn't want to over-order. This amount was perfect – satisfying without being overly filling, leaving just enough room for lunch later!

The Sea Urchin Dumplings were bursting with juicy meat and delicate sea urchin roe. With every bite, a savory, umami flavor spread through my mouth – absolutely delicious!

The unique aroma of sea urchin wasn't overpowering at all; it blended perfectly with the meat, making for an incredibly tasty dumpling.

The Crab Roe Dumplings were wonderfully clean and tender, offering a subtle hint of crab flavor that was truly delightful.

But for me, the Shrimp Dumplings were the absolute standout! Each one contained a whole, plump shrimp, giving it an amazing bouncy texture that popped with every bite. They were definitely my favorite!

We also ordered the Stir-fried Noodles with Scallion Oil, another signature dish at Luwangzhai!

The noodles were thick and chewy, and thanks to the scallion oil, they had an incredibly savory and light flavor. While delicious, I thought they might get a little repetitive after a while. However, adding a dash of the chili oil from the table transformed them into something even more fantastic!

Interestingly, there was a Wi-Fi guide inside Luwangzhai written in Korean. It seems the cell signal wasn't the strongest inside the restaurant.

We actually ran into some issues with payment due to poor signal, so we ended up connecting to the Wi-Fi to complete our transaction!

04. Our Visit Review

My visit to Luwangzhai for Dalian's famous sea urchin dumplings was truly memorable. The rich, umami flavor of the sea urchin dumplings and the delightful bounce of the shrimp dumplings are still vivid in my mind.

And those Stir-fried Noodles with Scallion Oil? Despite their simple appearance, the unique savory aroma of the scallion oil combined with the chewy noodles made for an incredibly satisfying dish. Luwangzhai truly delivered a fantastic dining experience in Dalian!
