Get ready for your ultimate Cebu family adventure! We compare private car rentals to traditional city tours, revealing how to see Cebu's best sights affordably and hassle-free.
Hey there, global explorers! It's Seulseuling, your go-to travel influencer here.
I'm currently planning an exciting family trip to Cebu this coming Chuseok holiday!
This will actually be my fourth time visiting Cebu,
but believe it or not, I've never actually done a proper Cebu City tour!
Since I'm bringing my parents along,
I'm putting together an itinerary that perfectly blends relaxation with exciting sightseeing.
For a family trip, I'm aiming for something comfortable, affordable, and
a Cebu City tour that offers incredible value for money.
Below, I'll share exactly how we plan to make it happen!
Cebu City Tour vs Private Rental Car 1. City Tour Prices 2. Private Rental Car 3. City Tour Itinerary |
Cebu City Tour vs Private Rental Car
This post will walk you through these points in order.
1. Cebu City Tour Prices

When I started researching city tours,
no matter how cheap I tried to find them,
the lowest price I could find was ~$41 per person.
And ~$41 is actually considered quite cheap!
Typically, you'd be looking at around ~$55 to ~$76.
I compared city tour prices on platforms like Trip.com and MyRealTrip.
Since our family consists of 6 adults and 2 children,
making a total of 8 people, I realized we'd be spending close to ~$414 just on the city tour!
That seemed a bit much, so I started thinking about alternatives!
2. Private Car Rental

Ultimately, I couldn't justify spending ~$414 on a city tour for 8 people,
so I started looking into private car rentals instead~!
Renting a car in Cebu?
But who will drive?
When people hear 'rental car',
their first thought is usually about who will do the driving!
No worries!
Most rental car packages here include a driver.
What about rental car costs?
And gas?
Good news, gas costs are typically included! So, no need to stress about that.
However, entrance fees for attractions and parking fees are usually separate,
so we'll only need to cover those ourselves.
Entrance fee: typically ~$2
Parking fee: typically ~$1
Rental car cost: ~$83 – ~$110
Total estimated cost: ~$97 – ~$124
Estimated Cost per Person | For 8 people | For 2 people |
Using City Tour | ~$48 – ~$55 | |
Using Private Rental Car | ~$7 – ~$14 | ~$21 |
Breaking down the total estimated costs per person,
it's clearly a much more affordable option than a guided city tour!
For me, the decision was a no-brainer.
I'm definitely going with the private car rental!

3. Cebu City Itinerary

I've put together a potential Cebu City itinerary.
Since I'm not opting for a pre-arranged tour,
I'll share the Cebu City route I've researched and planned myself.
Cebu Tour Itinerary | |
Downtown [History & Culture] 4-5 hours | Santo Niño Church Magellan's Cross Basilica del Santo Niño Fort San Pedro Local Market or Shopping Mall |
Mountain Area [Nature, Mountain Scenery] 8 hours | Temple of Leah Sirao Garden Tops Lookout Buwakan ni Alejandra Taoist Temple |
Cebu City's attractions can broadly be divided into two main areas: the bustling Downtown area and the scenic Mountain area.
Since it's a family trip with kids,
I've decided to separate the Downtown and Mountain tours to make them more manageable.
I'm planning to use different rental car options for each of these tours,
and I'll explain why below~!

For the Cebu City tour, we won't need the car for a super long duration,
and the distances between attractions are relatively short.
That's why I looked for a more affordable car rental option for this part!!
For the Cebu Downtown tour, we'll be using a private rental car, so
Be sure to check out these amazing spots~

(Based on an exchange rate of 1400 KRW)
Vehicle | 3 hours | 8 hours | 10 hours |
Sedan (1~3 people) | ~$45 | ~$69 | ~$78 |
SUV (4~5 people) | ~$49 | ~$76 | ~$85 |
Van (6~10 people) | ~$61 | ~$86 | ~$102 |
The prices vary by vehicle size and duration,
but since it's the price per vehicle, not per person,
it's truly affordable compared to a city tour costing ~$55 per person~!
(Prices are subject to change based on exchange rates)
🔻Cebu City Private Car Rental🔻

When I use local companies, I always check the reviews,
and the reviews for this one were really excellent~!
With 1200 bookings, it seems like a highly reputable company.

This is the Cebu mountain region course.
Including Temple of Leah, Tops Lookout, Sirao Garden, etc.
It takes about 1 hour just to travel from Cebu city center,
so the overall tour duration is longer than the city tour.

There's a separate car rental service specifically for the Cebu mountain region.
Temple of Leah, Sirao Garden, Charlie's Cup
Buwakaw ni Alejandra, Lakeview Le Jardin
It's an 8-hour course in total!
(Based on an exchange rate of 1400 KRW)
Vehicle | 8 hours |
Sedan (1~3 people) | ~$79 |
SUV (4~5 people) | ~$87 |
Van (6~10 people) | ~$98 |
The tour cost for 8 people is ~$98, can you believe it?
It's incredibly affordable~!!
From a tour cost of ~$414 down to ~$97,
I saved so much money, so I'm going to feast on mangoes and Alimango crab!
I'm going to eat my fill!
🔻Book Cebu Mountain Tour Car Rental🔻

Since it's a car rental service exclusively for mountain courses,
there are only 111 reviews, but
the ratings are quite high, so you can book with confidence~

If you opt for a private car rental for your Cebu city tour,
you can save over ~$276,
and travel comfortably with just your group,
which is why I'm booking a private car rental!

A typical Cebu City tour costs a minimum of ~$41 per person, so for a family of 8, the estimated cost would be around ~$414. A private car rental, on the other hand, including vehicle rental fee, local admission fees, and parking fees, is estimated to be a total of ~$97 to ~$124.
Cebu private car rental services include a driver and fuel. However, entrance fees to tourist attractions and parking fees must be paid separately by the user. Entrance fees are approximately ~$2, and parking fees are around ~$1.
The Cebu downtown city tour course introduced in the article, including Santo Niño Church, Magellan's Cross, Basilica del Santo Niño, and Fort San Pedro, takes approximately 4 to 5 hours. This course is designed around history and culture.
For an 8-hour private van rental for a family of 8 for a Cebu mountain area tour, the estimated cost is ~$98. This cost is for one vehicle and includes the driver and fuel.
