While there are direct flights, even though this is my third trip, I've never actually taken one straight through.
I've always opted for the journey from Cebu to Bohol.
If memory serves, a direct flight to Bohol hovers around ~$207, while Cebu usually costs around ~$138.
But if you add the cost of taking the OceanJet, it might end up being similar. In fact, a direct flight might even be better!
Oh, of course, this is all assuming your trip is primarily focused on Bohol. If you're exploring both, or mainly staying in Cebu, then flying to Cebu is the obvious choice.
But I tend to gravitate towards Bohol-centric trips, haha! This particular adventure was 100% Bohol.
Who knows when it'll be, but for my next trip, I'll definitely have to try a direct flight to Panglao Airport. I hear it's super close to Alona Beach!
Diving into the main topic,
the way to get from Cebu to Bohol is by taking the OceanJet from Pier 1.
It's essentially a choice between booking in advance through a travel agency, doing it directly on-site, or using a travel booking website. I think I booked directly myself on my previous trips.
I didn't anticipate a huge price difference, and this time, to secure my preferred time slot, I opted to book online in advance. I used KKday (it was cheaper than Klook!).
Once there, you just need to select the type of ticket, date, and time.
With Business Class, you supposedly don't need to check your luggage separately, but for Economy Class, you do, and it costs 100-150 Pesos.
In that case, I figured Business Class was the way to go.
I heard that even with Business Class, they sometimes push you to check your luggage and charge you, but I planned not to fall for that.
But as it turned out, that wasn't the case... I ended up paying an extra fee ㅠ More on that later...
If you're buying tickets on-site,
you can purchase them at the building across from the terminal entrance.
You'll need a ticket to enter the terminal.
(Either a physical ticket or a voucher.)
You'll likely take a taxi or Grab there. If you get dropped off right at the entrance, there's a 10-Peso entrance fee. But if you get off just a little bit before (and I mean, really just a little bit, haha!), you won't have to pay it.
It's not a huge amount, so if you have luggage, getting dropped off right at the front isn't a bad idea.
Different from the 10 Pesos mentioned earlier,
there's also a terminal entrance fee. This one is 25 Pesos.
You pay here, receive your ticket, and then present it upon entry.
Once inside, after a quick luggage check, you just head to the counter and show your voucher.
Then you'll receive your actual ticket. I've focused on how to get from Cebu to Bohol, but the process is essentially the same for the return journey.
Oh, and I thought Business Class didn't have an extra fee... but I ended up paying 100 Pesos, haha! Turns out it only applies to small bags...
If that's the case, why did I pay extra for Business Class? Ugh...
If it had been the luggage handler who said that, I might have wondered if it was a scam, you know? But it was the desk staff, so...
So I paid. Thankfully, I only booked a one-way ticket, so I'll definitely go Economy on the way back!
Once you're in, you'll find waiting seats, souvenir shops, and little stalls selling snacks.
While waiting, they also offer massages,
and the masseuses are visually impaired.
I'm not sure about other countries,
but in Korea, it's traditionally a profession for the visually impaired.
With nothing else to do while waiting, quite a few people were getting massages.
They even offered one to me,
I considered it for a moment, but chose to work on this blog post instead.
While I was writing, I kept glancing over at the people receiving massages next to me,
and it seemed like
they weren't pressing on pressure points or anything specific,
but rather just a gentle, caressing touch.
If you head a bit further inside, it's incredibly quiet, almost like airports during the pandemic when flights were scarce.
If you prefer to avoid crowds, this would be a great spot to settle down.
It looks like the ferry from Cebu to Bohol has arrived.
I immediately moved to take some photos of the ferry's interior before everyone boarded.
Time to board!
This is the economy class.
Looks pretty good, right??
Business Class is on the second floor.
Hmm.
It definitely feels more spacious and comfortable.
I'm not sure how much more expensive it is compared to the first floor,
but that price difference will probably determine which one is a better choice.
I'd heard the air conditioning can be really strong,
so I made sure to pack some extra layers just in case.
And true enough...
there's definitely a chill in the air.
It's not unbearably cold just yet,
but I guess I'll know for sure after a bit more time on board, haha!
Well, scratch that – it actually *is* freezing! After about 23 minutes, it got unbelievably cold...
If you go out the door at the back, you'll find the outdoor seating area,
and it was so cold inside that I escaped out there a few times.
It seems like a great spot to enjoy the scenery,
but the wind was so strong I couldn't even open my eyes... and my hair was a complete mess!
So, the best option is... the first floor.
I'll definitely book economy class for the OceanJet back to Bohol.

The journey took exactly 125 minutes.
One thing to remember is that the second floor gets excessively cold.
If you're someone who easily gets cold, you'll definitely need to pay extra attention to that.
