Buyeo is gentle,
incredibly calm,
and... truly, wonderfully still, don't you think?
You can simply think of it as: Serenity + Calm = Buyeo. It's the perfect equation!

and where breathtaking natural scenery unfolds...
It's truly a city for introverts.

I highly recommend visiting solo – I'd honestly prefer if Buyeo didn't turn into a crowded hotspot, you know?
So, as a local who's called Buyeo home for 'n' years,
I'm excited to share
my favorite solo travel itinerary for exploring this gem.
I'll be introducing only the places I truly love and cherish here.
New to Buyeo?
[Downtown Buyeo Exploration]
I think it's perfect to arrive in Buyeo around 11 AM, taking your time and enjoying the journey.
Buyeo is a place where you'll have plenty of time, even if you start your day at a leisurely pace.
Since it's a slightly early lunch,
grab some kimbap to go
and head over to the Jeongnimsa Temple Site to enjoy it.
📍Ari Kimbap
It's conveniently located near the bus terminal,
and they serve refreshing cold cucumber soup and shredded radish alongside your meal!
The kimbap rolls are wonderfully plump and generous, so you'll definitely leave feeling satisfied, trust me!

You'll find this spot conveniently close to the Jeongnimsa Temple Site.
Make sure to try their Spicy Mushroom Kimbap – it's absolutely delicious, my personal favorite!

Choose whichever spot calls to you most – both are considered the absolute best kimbap restaurants in Buyeo!
With your kimbap roll packed,
let's take a lovely stroll towards the Jeongnimsa Temple Site.
📍Jeongnimsa Temple Site Five-Story Stone Pagoda
Find a peaceful spot on a bench at Jeongnimsa Temple Site
and enjoy your kimbap while gazing at the magnificent Five-Story Stone Pagoda.
I find that simply contemplating the Jeongnimsa Temple Site brings such tranquility to my soul.
This pagoda is truly Buyeo's iconic landmark.
It's said to have stood for 1500 years without needing any major repairs –
a testament to its incredibly solid and robust construction.
From a distance, it might not strike you as huge,
but get closer, and you'll realize its impressive scale.
There's also a wonderfully gentle and elegant feel to its form.
After your meal, if you have a bit more time,
don't miss checking out the Buddha statue
wearing a hat in the building behind the pagoda.
'A Buddha statue with a hat?' you might ask!
Yes, it truly exists!
I'll include a drawing here,
but you absolutely have to see it for yourself in person!
📍 Haepil (Bookstore & Workshop)
After your delightful lunch at Jeongnimsa Temple Site,
cross the street to Haepil.
I love to pick up a new book here to read during my Buyeo explorations,
and you can also enjoy the faint, charming view of Jeongnimsa Temple Site through the windows.

Now, let's make our way leisurely over to Gungnamji Pond.
While it would be lovely to cycle there,
if you're exploring on foot like me, it's a pleasant walk!
You'll arrive at Gungnamji from Jeongnimsa Temple Site in just about 15 minutes.

Gungnamji Pond is a beautiful lotus garden!
Take a leisurely stroll around Gungnamji Pond.
Honestly, I personally prefer Gungnamji Pond in the morning or evening.
But if you visit during the day,
you can witness Gungnamji Pond looking this gorgeous!
Gungnamji Pond is home to many ducks, so make sure to spot some cute ones while you're there!
While strolling through Gungnamji Pond,
find a rocking chair to sit in,
listen to some music, and gaze at Poryongjeong Pavilion.
It's such a delightful feeling.

Autumn = Busosanseong Fortress
Summer is when the lotus flowers bloom, making Gungnamji Pond especially beautiful for a visit.
In autumn, you can witness the stunning fall foliage at Busosanseong Fortress.

📍 Savarin
Let's head to Savarin, a renowned dessert spot near Gungnamji Pond.
Order a slice of cake and an iced Americano (A-ah) to quench your thirst.
With options like matcha cake, lemon meringue cake, and more,
this place is famous for its delicious slices, so you absolutely must try one!
It's also a wonderful spot to relax with a book!

📍 Buyeo National Museum
After a pleasant 20-minute walk from Savarin,
you'll arrive at the Buyeo National Museum.
Take a quick look at the Baekje Gilt-bronze Incense Burner.
If you're interested in history, explore the main exhibition hall as well.
The Baekje Gilt-bronze Incense Burner = Geomi Bulru Hwaibulchi
Simple yet not crude,
luxurious yet not extravagant.
This embodies the aesthetic philosophy of the Baekje Kingdom,
and this artifact is a perfect representation of it.
Currently, viewing the Gilt-bronze Incense Burner is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please note that it can get crowded on weekends!!
📍 Buyeo National Museum

After exploring at your own pace,
it's probably getting close to dinner time.
[Dinner Recommendations]
Wang Gomtang: A fantastic spot for gomtang (beef bone soup) and delicious kkakdugi (radish kimchi).
Gwichon Bubu: An Italian restaurant located near the museum.
Yungane Kalguksu: They serve a wonderful clam kalguksu (handmade noodle soup).
Buyeo Makguksu: Famous for its perilla oil makguksu (buckwheat noodles) – definitely order it with perilla oil!
Hwangung: A must-try for their Chadol Jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup with beef brisket).
These are hand-picked restaurants where you can comfortably dine alone,
so choose one that suits your taste!
After dinner, let's go watch the sunset!
📍 Gudrae Naruteo (Ferry Terminal)
Gudrae Naruteo is an absolutely stunning place to watch the sunset in Buyeo.
It's nice to grab a drink to enjoy while you're there.
Some days, it looks like this,
and other days, it looks like this.
It's different every time,
making it a place where you can witness a diverse array of sunset colors!
The wide-open view overlooking the Baekmagang River is fantastic,
making it perfect for a leisurely stroll and sunset gazing.

- Gisulja Tteokjip (The Artisan Rice Cake House)
This place, located within the Buyeo Market, is famous for its blueberry seolgi (steamed rice cake).
Blueberry seolgi is quite unique, isn't it? The combination of blueberries and white rice cake is surprisingly delicious!
- Eiffel Bakery
Right when you step out of Buyeo Terminal, you'll spot
Buyeo's signature bakery!
These long-standing local bakeries often have nostalgic items.
And since it's open until 1 AM,
it's perfect for grabbing a memorable treat even late at night.
It's a bakery that stays true to its roots and evokes sweet memories.
- Buyeo Confectionery
This is a private cafe and bakery located across from Jeongnimsa Temple Site.
They sell chestnut cream madeleines and other chestnut-themed desserts.

I said it's a relaxed pace,
but if you walk it, it can actually be quite a packed itinerary!
Feel free to adjust it to suit your preferences.
+ If you still have energy,
- a walk around Busosan Fortress is a wonderful idea.
- The Shin Dong-yup Literary House is also quiet and perfect for a solo visit.
If you do all that, you'll have pretty much mastered Buyeo-eup!
Exploring Buyeo this way will let you experience it quite thoroughly.

The Baekje Gilt-bronze Incense Burner at the Buyeo National Museum currently operates on a first-come, first-served entry basis. It can get crowded on weekends, so it's advisable to be mindful when visiting.
Chestnut-related desserts are recommended, such as Blueberry Seolgi from Gisulja Tteokjip, 'Memory Bread' from Eiffel Bakery, and Chestnut Cream Madeleines from Buyeo Gwajajeom. Eiffel Bakery operates until 1 AM, so you can purchase items even late at night.
