Hey fellow travelers! Today, I’m sharing my exact 4-night, 6-day Budapest itinerary to help you plan the perfect Hungarian getaway.
After a long journey flying into Budapest, my priority was simple: wash off the travel fatigue. That's why my very first stop was the historic Lukács Baths.
Soaking in the warm, mineral-rich thermal waters was the absolute best way to melt away the jet lag and reset for the adventure ahead.
Lukács Baths is open daily from 07:00 AM to 07:00 PM. A weekday ticket with locker access costs around 7,000 HUF (approx. $20), while weekend tickets run about 8,000 HUF (approx. $23).

Next, I wandered over to the Great Market Hall. It's completely free to enter and a great place to soak in local life, but keep an eye on the hours since they vary by day (Monday 06:00 AM - 05:00 PM, Tuesday-Friday 06:00 AM - 06:00 PM, Saturday 06:00 AM - 03:00 PM). It's closed on Sundays and public holidays, so plan your visit accordingly!

As evening fell, I headed out for a night tour of Fisherman's Bastion and the Hungarian Parliament Building. Seeing the Parliament illuminated against the dark Danube was hands down one of the most breathtaking travel experiences of my life. There's a reason Budapest is crowned one of Europe's top three night views!
While the lower terraces and steps of Fisherman's Bastion are completely free to explore, the upper observation decks require a ticket costing 1,700 HUF (approx. $5) between 09:00 AM and 09:00 PM. Outside of these hours, you can access the upper levels for free.

On my second day, I joined a guided day trip exploring the Danube Bend, covering Esztergom, Visegrád, and Szentendre. This tour is a fantastic way to see three distinct historic towns in one day: Esztergom, the former capital with its massive basilica; Visegrád, the ancient royal seat; and Szentendre, a beautifully preserved medieval town.

On the third day, I decided to head back to Szentendre—this time entirely on my own. Going back solo allowed me to set my own pace, which was a refreshing contrast to the fast-paced, multi-stop group tour from the day before.
I fell in love with Szentendre because it's a vibrant artists' village filled with charming, colorful alleys and unique craft shops. Plus, they have a whimsical year-round Christmas market that you absolutely cannot miss! Best of all, you don't need a tour to get here—you can easily take the HÉV suburban train directly from central Budapest.

For my fourth and final day, I hopped on a Hop-On Hop-Off bus to leisurely explore the city's main attractions. It was a bit rainy, and I wanted a comfortable way to cover any spots I had missed.
Ticket prices vary depending on the operator (starting around 13 EUR, which is approx. $14, for a 1-day pass). I highly recommend comparing the route maps (Red vs. Green lines) and checking if a Danube River cruise is included before you purchase.

On day five, I caught my flight back, wrapping up an incredible 4-night, 6-day Budapest getaway by the time I landed on day six.
Budapest is beautiful, but combining the city center with Danube Bend day trips lets you experience the true charm of Hungary's riverside towns. If you find a spot you absolutely adore—like I did with Szentendre—don't hesitate to take a train back the next day to enjoy it at your own leisurely pace.
