When planning a Fukuoka itinerary with kids,
there's one place that always makes it onto the list:
Beppu African Safari!

The challenge, however, is **accommodation**.
After exploring the safari, both kids and adults can feel quite tired,
and heading all the way back to Fukuoka can feel like a long journey.
Yet, venturing to a mountain *ryokan* would mean even more travel.
So, this time, we decided to stay a night in Beppu.
Just a 1-minute walk from Beppu Station,
complete with natural hot springs and even free private family baths,
is **Beppu Hatto Onyado Nono Beppu**.
In today’s post, I’ll share details about Onyado Nono Beppu’s
location, rooms, private family hot springs, breakfast information,
and a price comparison to help you find the best deal.
👍🏻 Pros ✔️ 1-minute walk from Beppu Station ✔️ 7 free private family baths, no reservation needed ✔️ Tatami-matted hallways and a traditional *ryokan* ambiance ✔️ Free ice cream and late-night ramen 👎🏻 Cons ✔️ Rooms are not as spacious as a traditional *ryokan* |
1. Onyado Nono Location
📍 Onyado Nono Beppu
2-6 Ekimae Honmachi, Beppu, Oita 874-0934 Japan
Onyado Onsen Hotel is located **right in front of JR Beppu Station**.
Just exit the station and cross the street, and you're at the hotel,
so there's no long walk with your luggage.
If you take the JR Limited Express Sonic from Fukuoka's Hakata Station,
you'll reach Beppu Station in about 2 hours,
and you'll be *checking in just 1 minute after getting off the train*.

📍 African Safari
Japan 〒872-0722 Oita, Usa, Ajimumachi Minamihata, 2−1755−1
It's about a **40-minute drive to Beppu African Safari**.
After enjoying the animals at the safari in the morning,
checking in during the afternoon and relaxing in the private family bath fits perfectly into the itinerary.
(Alternatively, staying in Beppu and heading straight to the safari is also ideal!)
Being able to take a tired child directly from the safari
and into the hot spring right away
was the **main reason we chose this hotel as our African Safari accommodation**.
**Beppu's Hells of Beppu (Jigoku Onsen) Tour and Takegawara Onsen** are
within a 10-minute drive.
There are also many *izakayas* (Japanese pubs) and *yakiniku* (grilled meat) restaurants around the station,
so finding dinner is no problem at all.
2. Hotel Basic Information

Check-in: 3:00 PM
Check-out: 11:00 AM
Onyado Nono is a **hot spring hotel brand** by the group
famous for Dormy Inn.
You can think of it as combining the convenience of a business hotel
with the atmosphere of a *ryokan*.

The entire hallway is covered in *tatami* mats,
so you take off your shoes at the entrance and walk barefoot
from your room all the way to the hot springs.
This made me feel much more at ease, even with my child running around.
3. Rooms and Private Family Hot Springs

We **booked a twin room**,
and it was about the size you'd expect from a standard Japanese hotel room.
Since it's an urban hot spring hotel,
you might be a bit disappointed if you're expecting a spacious tatami room like a traditional *ryokan*.
However, you won't be spending much time in your room anyway.
That's because the real place to relax is on the 13th floor..!
(More details about the 13th floor later!)

Inside the room, you'll find a **small sofa, TV, and beds**.
Everything was compactly arranged.
Since we booked with our child included,
they thoughtfully pushed the beds together for us..!
The beds were so comfortable that our child said they were 'fluffy',
and since the bed height was low, we could sleep soundly with our child
without worrying about safety issues.

One **downside was that the shower room was quite small**,
but I believe this design decision was made because the hotel itself features a large public bath and separate private family baths.

The rooms are equipped with pajamas, similar to a modernized *hanbok*,
which are a two-piece style (top and bottom).
These make it much more comfortable to move around inside the hotel.

The amenities are by POLA.
The room can accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 children,
children aged 0-2 stay for free.
For children aged 3-12, an additional ~$19 is charged per night.
13th Floor Grand Bath and Family Baths

On the 13th floor, you'll find a natural hot spring grand bath, an open-air bath,
and even seven private family baths.
These family baths are
the highlight of this hot spring hotel!

No need for a separate reservation –
if one is vacant, you can just walk right in.
There are no extra charges either.

It's perfect for when it's awkward to split into men's and women's baths with children,
allowing the whole family to enjoy the hot springs together in one space.
(The only problem is my son isn't a fan of hot water...)

The post-onsen treats are delightful too!
After your bath, you get free ice cream,
late-night ramen in the evening,
and a complimentary probiotic drink in the morning.

When we visited, it felt like there were fireworks happening far away,
and seeing the sparks really made our family trip feel even more special.
4. Breakfast & Dinner

Breakfast is served buffet-style
at the hotel restaurant, Hatago.

Featuring local Oita dishes,
you can truly feel you've arrived in Beppu right from the morning.
This is why it's often cited as one of Beppu's best hotels for breakfast.

We also tried dinner here,
but personally, I wouldn't highly recommend it....
Wish we had eaten out... lol
I recommend including only breakfast with your hotel stay,
and finishing your evenings with the complimentary late-night ramen.
5. Price

Considering it has natural hot springs and free family baths right in front of Beppu Station,
I expected it to be quite pricey.
However, upon comparison, it’s actually quite reasonable compared to other hotels in the area.
Trip.com | Agoda | |
~$226 | ~$231 | |
※ Based on 1 night in a Twin Room, Fri-Sat in December, including tax.
For the same room and dates,
Trip.com came out slightly cheaper than Agoda.
Prices change often depending on the date and room type,
so it’s worth checking both sites before you book.
Look out for member discounts or seasonal coupons on each platform,
as they can make the difference even bigger!
In the morning, imagine meeting giraffes and elephants at the safari,
and in the evening, strolling barefoot down a tatami corridor to a private family bath.
Even thinking about it now, my Beppu itinerary still fills me with excitement!
Since it was a journey with my child,
finding accommodation with easy access and movement was incredibly important,
and since it offered both a fantastic onsen and a private family bath, I made my decision without a second thought.
If you’re on the hunt for the perfect stay near Beppu African Safari,
a place close to the station where you can truly indulge in a private family onsen,
Onyado Nono Beppu is well worth a look!
