it's a place where you can truly immerse yourself in vibrant summer vibes.

What stuck with me most from my visit

was the incredible atmosphere of Surfers Paradise.

Plus, there are activities like Astra Lumina in the Currumbin area that you can enjoy into the evening,

making it easy to craft an itinerary with beach fun during the day and immersive experiences at night.

Cairns: A Destination with a Clear Purpose

The Great Barrier Reef

In this world-famous coral reef region,

if you're dreaming of activities like snorkeling or cruises,

Cairns is an absolute must-visit.

I actually got to experience the Great Barrier Reef firsthand,

and the whole travel experience felt incredibly different from other Australian cities.

If that sounds like you, then Cairns is definitely a place worth considering.

However, if you're planning a trip during the winter holidays (Northern Hemisphere),

there's a crucial detail you absolutely need to know before you go.

Tropical North Queensland, including Cairns,

experiences its wet season during what might be your winter holidays,

meaning from November to April, you can expect higher rainfall and humidity,

and it's also the period when tropical cyclones are a possibility.

For the Great Barrier Reef itself, during this time,

it's recommended to wear stinger suits due to jellyfish presence!

Just because it's winter in the Northern Hemisphere (meaning summer in Australia), and thus Cairns, is the absolute best time to visit,

don't automatically assume that and book your trip.

Personally, I found Brisbane

was best when combined with a trip to the Gold Coast.

I journeyed in the order of

Melbourne → Gold Coast → Brisbane,

As I made my way from the Gold Coast to Brisbane,

I stopped by Sirromet Winery,

and once in Brisbane,

I explored South Bank, the Eat Street Northshore night market,

and even a farmers market.

Rather than the busy rush of famous sights you might find in Sydney or Melbourne,

Brisbane offered a more relaxed pace,

making it perfect for enjoying the laid-back vibe of an Australian city.

That's why, instead of just choosing Brisbane on its own,

I recommend combining Gold Coast + Brisbane

to create your itinerary.
