Alohilani Waikiki Review: Hawaii Oceanfront Comparison

While planning my honeymoon to Hawaii,

Alohilani vs. Sheraton Waikiki vs. Prince Waikiki

I did so much price comparison for the oceanfront views!

Since I really couldn't decide which one was the best,

I got quotes from three different honeymoon agencies

and read endless reviews before finally making my decision!!

(By the way, the comparison below is based on my personal experience

and is entirely my subjective opinion!)

Room Conditions by Hotel

Alohilani stands 38 stories high with 839 rooms.

With a private balcony in every room,

you can soak in the gorgeous views in your own private space!

It even features an espresso maker and flat-screen TV,

and the bathroom comes fully stocked with all the essential toiletries.

Sheraton Waikiki is massive, boasting 1,636 rooms.

It’s truly a grand-scale resort!

It’s a universally loved, go-to accommodation for travelers,

and yes, it also guarantees a private balcony for every guest!

Prince Waikiki has 561 rooms,

making it the coziest of the three.

The private bathrooms feature either a bathtub or a separate shower,

complete with premium, high-end toiletries.

Comparing the Hawaii Hotel Pools

Alohilani features a beautiful outdoor pool

paired with a relaxing Jacuzzi,

which was the perfect way to unwind in the evening!

Heading down to the beach by day and melting away in the warm Jacuzzi by night—

this evening relaxation routine was absolute bliss haha.

Plus, you can grab a refreshing drink

at the poolside bar right next to it!

Sheraton Waikiki’s crown jewel is its legendary water slide

and stunning, endless infinity pool!

It is truly iconic.

You've probably seen this spectacular view all over your social media feeds.

Prince Waikiki offers two outdoor pools,

along with a 24-hour fitness center and free bicycle rentals.

Waikiki Ocean View vs. Oceanfront: What's the Difference?

This was honestly the most confusing part for me when booking!

📍 Just so you know, "Ocean View" and "Oceanfront"

are completely different concepts!

An Ocean View usually means a partial view peeking through buildings,

which basically makes it a partial ocean view at best.

The Oceanfront View rooms are seriously on a whole different level—the moment you step inside!!!

the ocean literally stretches out right before your eyes,

making the view quality absolutely next-level.✨✨

The Oceanfront View at Alohilani

is around ~$380 (as of December),

and since it's just a 4-minute walk to Kuhio Beach,

the actual accessibility is fantastic.

For the Sheraton Waikiki Oceanfront View,

the pool slightly overlaps with the view from almost every room,

which was a bit of a dilemma for me.

If you prefer an unobstructed ocean view without the pool in it,

definitely keep this in mind!

Prince Waikiki is also oceanfront,

but it overlooks the harbor, making the sunset extra special.

It has a completely different vibe

compared to the classic, open-ocean Waikiki view.

But in the end, I chose Alohilani, haha! 😄

Location Comparison of Each Hotel

Alohilani and Sheraton Waikiki

are right by Waikiki Beach,

so all the nearby restaurants and attractions

are completely walkable!

It makes getting around so incredibly easy.

Prince Waikiki is near the Ala Moana Center,

which is actually a bit farther from the heart of Waikiki

than you might expect.

I actually tried walking from Alohilani to Ala Moana Center,

and let me tell you, it was quite a trek! 😭

If you plan on doing a lot of shopping at Ala Moana, Prince is great.

But if you're focusing on downtown Waikiki, you'll definitely want to consider the distance!

Good to Know Before You Go!

​For Alohilani, there are sometimes reviews online saying

the security deposit wasn't refunded.

But when I asked at check-out,

it turned out the charge was never even processed (just a hold).

Since it was never charged, there was no need to wait for a refund, haha. 😂

Still, it's always a good idea to check your credit card limit before your trip!

At Sheraton Waikiki, you get a wristband key at check-in,

and you'll see so many travelers wearing them around!

Since it's incredibly popular,

they often offer great perks if you stay for 3 nights or more.

Make sure to check the benefits carefully when booking!

Prince Waikiki is a highly recommended spot

by many travel agencies for its excellent value.

An Oceanfront View in the ~$190 range is such a steal,

so if you're planning a honeymoon on a slightly tighter budget,

this is absolutely worth considering!
